My Bulb Baster Won't Suck up Liquids!

Hi! My bulb baster is only about a year old, used about 5 times before it just stopped sucking the liquid into the "tube"... The bulb is not cracked, there are no holes or anything else that would cause it to not have a suction. I did remove the bulb to clean it out by hand, but that's it. Is there something I can do? I really like this one. I've put the bulb back on the base both over the first ring and the second ring, but nothing seems to work. TIA

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I know many people swear by a roasting bag, but I'll never use one for a turkey. I have used the spoon and brush method since my baster bit it, but I haven't thrown it out yet because I just really like this one and it wasn't a really cheap one, so the penny pincher in me refuses to let it see the garbage pale! lol

Its just not sealing correctly. I'd probably drop over to the dollar store and pick up another one. They've never lasted very long for me so I don't spend a lot of money on them.

Well if it is not working and you really want it to try putting duct tape all around the bulb. I know that's very redneck but that's about the only thing you can do if you don't want to replace it that I can think of.

Good luck!

Sounds like a bad seal. That can happen when they dry out - some people put them in the dishwasher, or perhaps it was defective to start. Try filling it with water and holding it sideways, then rolling it slowly to see where the leak is. You could put some food coloring in the water to help you see where the leak is.

I'd call the manufacturer to see if there's been a problem or to see if they have a suggestion (or, better yet, will honor a guarantee). If it wasn't cheap, they should stand behind it. That won't help for right now, though, so I'd just go to the store and get a $1.99 version to get you through this year.

If worse comes to worse you can use a spoon or cook in a roasting bag.
I've never had a bulb baster that lasted very long.

Additional:
I stopped using bulb basters a long time ago.
We got a few Spanek vertical roasters (one size for chicken, a larger one for turkey) more than 20 years ago and we love it so much we don't cook poultry any other way.
The bird sits up in a pan with an inch or so of water (you can also add juice, wine, beer, etc).
The bird comes out with crisp skin everywhere, and tender moist inside - and no one has to baste anything.
After the bird is finished cooking, you have a great pan of broth/drippings.
It makes great gravy and/or soup broth.
If I can't use it right away I can freeze it.

I have seen these sold at the dollar store. It's not worth the agony if you cannot find an easy fix. I'd go ahead and buy a new one. I have used the dollar store ones without issue, they worked as well as pricier models from the grocery store or Macy's, for what it's worth.
