Hi, since birth (now 7weeks) has been feeding with a (formula) bottle and eats fast, sucks hard, and impatient. she went from eating an ounce to 4 1/2 oz. in 4wks and eating 4 to 4 1/2 oz. consistenly until this past week (wk. 7). My baby began to eat slower, taking breaks, and not eating as much, like 3oz. or 2oz sometimes. She doesn't seem frustrated and i don't think she is sick. what do you think is going on?

What can I do next?

if your pediatrition rulled out healt problems, don't warry. She is just gained enough of weight for now, trust her. Babies eat, sleep and grow in spurs...

Hi M.,

My daughter noticed her children eating more at times than at other times. She read that children go through growth spurts and when they do this it may last a day or so and then they back off at eating so much until the next one hits. As long as the child is not losing weight and is eating some, I wouldn't worry about it. J.

Hi M.. I think she is just in a slower growth stage at this point. Most kids, and especially when in the baby stages, grow in spurts and this continues for years. I wouldn't worry, just feed her what she will take and let her let you know when she is hungry. My son, now 14, eats like a lion! But sometimes he has times when he doesn't really eat that much and he is very healthy. As long as she is healthy and getting nutrition, I wouldn't worry about the amount unless it drops drastically! Enjoy!

Hi,

Of course check with your daughter's pediatrician, but based on my daughters feeding habits (she is now a healthy 3 months old) your baby is fine. Sometimes they eat more, sometimes less. As long as she is eating (with assicated peeing and pooping) she is probably fine.

Good Luck!

Probably the weather changes, its normal for babies to slow down, sleep more,

they are finally getting used to their enviornment,

And she probably realizes you wouldn't starve her,

Mom she is making her own schedule now, is she waking in the evenings less often, or more routinely.

All of this is common,

And at 12 lbs everyone can tell, she isn't the type to go hungry LOL.

Nothing to worry about, she is happy and eating.

She may be more aware of her body now, realizing it feels better NOT to eat as much in one sitting,or that she feels full.

Keep an eye on her, and talkk to your doctor when you go in for the next visit.

Good Luck

M

M.,

How does a single mom manage to be a sahm? What's your secret? Sounds like your precious baby girl has had a slowing of growth right now. When babies are having growth spurts, they eat more, and then sometimes they eat less as their bodies adjust to their current size. She'll spurt again soon. I wouldn't worry about it unless she stops gaining.

You are not alone I have a daughter (Brenna)that is the same amount of weeks old and I am experiencing the same thing. I know at about 4 weeks they go through a big growth spurt. However, I like you have no idea why the slow down?? If you get an answer please post it for us other Moms with the same issue. If I find out anything in the meantime I will let you know. =o) E. wow--
I could have written your post. I just went for his check-up today (he is 7 weeks also) and she told me to feed him on demand--even if every hour and even if he eats less. She said that the amount he was eating may have been for a growth spurt and it may be too exhausting for him to keep up now. I don't know if that helps.. Mine was also sick this weekend - a stomach virus.

Call your doctor--atleast your mind will be put at ease.

Good luck.
