My Baby Bangs the Heck Out of Her Bottle When She Eats!!!

My little 5 month old will litterly bang the heck out of her bottle while I feed her-so hard, it comes flying out of my hand!! I know she is learning to bop things around, and she probably is a little bored or not keen on eating--however I was wondering if anybody else had the same issue? Also, she tends to arch her back and want to look around rather then feed, then she immediately complains if I take the bottle away! What a girl. The room is quite most of the time, and I even hold her up at a better angle, but I am wondering if she is not as hungry as she is seems she is.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So far, she still is a wiggle worm, and must be very hungry to finish a bottle without distracting herself. I have decided to give her some serious play time before she eats, which helps with the wiggle part. Also, she is begining to grab objects and explore them, and we have given her closed water bottles so she can practice holding them. in preperation for self feeding. She still is wiggly, but that is something we treasure about her.

Maybe try feeding her with her head on your chest so she is looking straight out. She gets a better view of the world, plus maybe you can get a better grip on the bottle. Before you give her the bottle, is she "telling" you she is hungry? If not, then she might not need to eat yet. As long as she is getting enough ounces a day I wouldn't worry to much.

hmmm does she hold her bottle yet? if so maybe try to let her sit in the high chair or something so she can look around and eat. my daughter did the same thing and i started to let her hold it herself and would sit her in the bouncer or high chair.

Just stop when she does it and nicely say something like "oh all done?!..." Let her cry, but be loving to her. If she still wants to eat then try again in a few minutes or twenty or and hour , whatever seems appropriate. When she does it again repeat, "oh all done" and stop. She will quickly get the picture that bottle time is over when I hit it, mom still loves me but if I do that I'm done with bottle... if she's hungry she'll eat. She sounds playful. Good luck

My 4 1/2 mo old just started doing the exact same thing! I know he is hungry but he is just so distracted and hell-bent on pushing at the bottle and my hands and swinging his head around from side to side that feeding has become a bit of challenge - I don't have any idea what is up except he has always been a MAJOR wiggle-worm but the pushing and pulling at the bottle and my hands thing is new.... I am kinda hoping he will "grow out of it"??? he arches his back as well... who knows- I was afraid the arching of the back was a bit of reflux, but I think it is just him being squirmy and wanting to hurry up with the feeding so that he can sit back up and play etc....I am at a loss as well- hopefully someone will have a good suggestion- as I don't want to change his feeding schedule that much....good luck!!!
