My Baby and Her Fat Rolls and Double/triple Chin :)

Hi Ladies. I'm having a bit of a problem with my three month old. She loves to eat. Okay, that's not the problem. I love little chunky babies and her doctor says she's doing fine. The problem is that over the last few days I've noticed that under her chin she's getting raw. I hardly ever get to see under there because she has all these extra chins...lol. I do wipe her down with the baby wipes a couple of times a day and make sure that there's no milk/spit up under there but every once in awhile she relaxes her head and I get a good look. It's clean but sort of raw. I've been putting corn starch in an attempt to keep it dry and hopefully heal it but haven't really seen the results I was hoping for. After I put the powder/corn starch, I notice it just glumps up and I'm affraid I'm making it worse. I think the real problem is that no air gets to that section. But again, she's three-months old and is practicing holding that head up and doing a great job at it. Am I doing the right thing or should I be using A&D or something like that instead?

Try a small amount of cortisone cream (the lowest strength possible) and a little vaseline. It sounds like eczema...good luck!

Hey C.,

Both my little girls were chubbs as was I, don't let other peoples opinions bother you about her weight because I'm sure you will get tons of comments. My older daughter is 5 now and all limbs like me. Anyway, that happend to both of my girls and really the only thing you can do is what you are doing. It's more than likely happening from when she's eating, the milk drips down there. Just kind of pat her little neck down after, good luck though mine were never big fans of that. And wait until she starts getting dirty, you'll find all kinds of things under those chins!

Hi C., My miracle when my three were babies was Desitin. It is nasty and hard to get off but it sealed the area to keep it moist and protect from formula, etc. Make sure the area is clean before you put it on. Mine were chunks too but I considered them healthy, not fat! LOL. Good luck and what a coincidence, my daughter was born Sept. 5, 1997!

I have the same thing with my little one. I use to use diaper cream and that worked fine to get rid of it. The dr recommended that I buy some 100% cortizone and put a bit of that on it and that works too (works much quicker than the diaper cream).

FYI - my son also started getting a similar red spot where his diaper was rubbing under his chubby tummy. The cortizone worked much better than the diaper cream for that. Dr. said that my little one has very miled exema that he will probably grow out of by the time he turns 1.

LOL, our oldest son, now 11 1/2 is skinny/muscular and you could never tell he came out at 8 lbs 14 oz. He had rolls also and I loved them, yes they are hard to keep clean. Our oldest did use a bottle and when he ate I used a clean/dry burpie cloth tucked under his chin. After I would use warm water (no soap) on a wash cloth to clean him up and put baby powder on there and every diaper change I sprinkled a little more on. We lived in Florida then and it is so hot there, he would get so raw if we went to a park or outdoors. Just make sure to wash it gently everynight with soap and if you keep powder on there it will start to heal. Also keep using a little powder as a preventative once she is clear! Congrats on your new baby!!!

Try goldbond lotion. It is easily absorbed and will go on light like a powder but won't clump. The skin is rubbing together and is creating friction hence the raw area.

I had the same problem with all three of my babies. They would have really raw places in their creases. What worked best with mine was use just plain corn starch and make sure that it stayed dry in there. When I gave them a bath, I made sure that I dried it all really well and then put the corn starch on it. If you are really concerned about it, contact her doctor and maybe they will have other things for you to try. I know that with my son, using wipes to clean his rolls was irritating them more, so I used a wet wash cloth for him.

I hope this helps!
