My 8 Month Old Puts His Whole Pacifier in His Mouth, and It Is Stressing Me Out!

I need some advice to chill me out about something. Recently, my 8 month old started putting his whole pacifier in his mouth!!! Is this a cause to worry about swallowing??!! It was funny at first, but now I am getting nervous since he does it when he is trying to fall asleep in his crib, and I am not necessarily right there. He only really uses it when he is falling asleep/asleep. Can anyone relate to this?! I never had this prob with my 4 year old. Also, I am currently using Avent pacifiers which are age appropriate, of course.

What can I do next?

Hi R.,
I have never heard of putting the entire pacifier in the mouth...although my son would put the nipple and the shield around it 1/2 way in his mouth(usually under his bottom lip) But in any case it sounds very dangerous i would stop it immediately!!!! I doubt he coud swallow it but I am sure it could defianately get stuck or lodged... and he could choke! Unfortunately you will have to find another method for him at bed time...but better to be safe then sorry... good luck!

Hi,

You could try using those nuby pacifiers that are round. He shouldn't be able to fit those in his mouth.

Hope this helps!

I would be inclined to take the pacifier away from him completely.

That is really scary stuff.

Good luck!

It is not going to hurt him because my son did it and the Dr said that he can not swallow it.
