Highest 104 lowest 99. Last night was 96 when sleeping. So didn't give her Tylenol anymore. Waited to take her to dr. bcz 5 days i heard is ok. And wanted to avoid antibiotics since she had no other symptoms. Eats well and good energy.
Today the 6th day at 5:30a.m. her temp reads 99.3 so i gave her tylenol again.
Should i take her to dr. I still want to avoid antibiotics....

What can I do next?

Yes, after 5 days it's time to take her to the doctor.

I understand why people get upset over antibiotics.
There is a time and a place for them.

However - as long as animal feed contains antibiotics - and 4/5 of all antibiotics produced goes into animal feed - it makes zero difference how much or how little we use for human illnesses.
Microbes become antibiotic resistant on chickens, pigs, cows, etc - and then we wonder why antibiotics don't work so well for us anymore.

I really get tired of the half truth we get drilled into us.
Pharmaceutical companies make WAY more money putting antibiotics into feed - and they don't want to stop that flow of income.

When antibiotics are no longer used to beef up the beef - then I'll take the 'don't over use antibiotics' message more seriously.
Until then the half message we get is BS.
And I tell my doctor that when he starts up that mantra.

I would have taken my child when the fever hit 104. That is too high.

If you child is still running fever, I would suggest going to the doctor.

A fever of 104 is approaching a dangerous level. I can't believe you did not take this child to a Dr. Geesh!!

A low grade fever around 99... I monitored.

There are no guarantees a Dr will give your child antibiotics.

So you want to avoid antibiotics... and you really that willing to allow your child to possibly have irreversible damage because YOU did not want medication? Just WOW

Here's the thing, like other's have said, 104 is too high and you should have sought medical care. As an early childhood educator, had that child been in my care with that kind of fever and you had refused to seek medical care, I would have been obligated to call CPS due to neglect. I'm not sure you realize how sick your child has been. Just because you WANT to avoid antibiotics doesn't mean she won't need them and doesn't need them yet.

Get her to the doctor now and get her check out. Better safe than dead. Besides, strangers on the internet can't diagnose her, a doctor can. At the very least, call the nurse. Now.

Whenever my kids have a temp over 103.5? They are in the doctor's office. I don't care if they have no other symptoms. Even 104 is too high. That could lead to fibril seizures.

Get her to the doctor and find out what's wrong. If you're against antibiotics? I'm sorry. There's a time and a place for them. If you don't want to help your child? You may consider asking someone for help raising her.

it's not like it's a given that the doctor will give her antibiotics, right? i get not wanting them if she doesn't need them, but what if she does? you need an actual doctor to diagnose that. you can't do it by talking to strangers on the internet.

it does sound like a cold or the flu, in which case antibiotics won't help, but again, doctors know that.

i'd treat this at home, but if you aren't sure, i'd call your pediatrician and explain what's going on and follow their advice.

I wouldn't delay. The flu season this year has been LETHAL. If my child was burning up with a fever and had a sore throat, I'd rush her over to get checked, I would not just ignore it or wait 5 days to see what happens. Look at all the young kids who died of the flu within ONE DAY of feeling symptoms! Better safe than sorry. I don't know a single doctor these days that prescribe antibiotics just for the heck of it or because you asked for it. They are VERY reluctant to prescribe antibiotics and will only do so after further testing, like a throat culture.

Yes you should take her. I would have taken her in at 104, that is to high for me. There is so much flu and stuff going around that if it's that high she needs to be under a dr's care. Like Gidget said a good dr will not prescribe antibiotics unless needed.

One of children had an ear infection with no tell tale signs other than he suddenly had a fever (but was eating fine and no signs of pain) and it ended up rupturing his ear drum. We didn't catch it in time.

I don't want to alarm you but if you're asking here, you should trust your gut. I would at least make a call to the pediatrician's office and ask whether they think you should come in.

Hope she gets better soon

I would definitely call your doctor and let your doctor decide whether or not you need to bring her in. The nurse will likely ask you some questions to help the doctor decide.

Taking her to the doctor does not necessarily mean the doctor will give her antibiotics. A good doctor will only prescribe them if he/she is certain it is a bacterial infection. If you trust your doctor, then hopefully you can trust your doctor to make the right call.

When I was raising my boys back in the 80's my knee jerk reaction was not to rush to the doctor every time they had a sniffle, I reserved it for when they were really feeling bad-- its generally pretty obvious.
The common cold is treated with fluids, chicken noodle soup, some Vicks rubs, maybe a little cough syrup and plenty of rest. If your child feels good enough to play and eat she's probably fine.
Sore throats can be an issue though, could be strep and that may be what's causing her lowgrade fever as her own immune system is trying to battle. Untreated strep can turn into scarlet fever--- You gut instinct as a mom will tell you what to do, listen to it.

Please don't ever hesitate to take your child to the doctor because you fear the doctor will give her unnecessary antibiotics. Shame on any doctor who would do that. If you don't trust your doctor to treat your daughter properly, then you need to find a doctor you do trust.

Our pediatrician would never give antibiotics unless it was warranted.

Please call the DR. 99.3 isn't a fever and I wouldn't give meds for that unless she also had a headache. You need professional medical advice.

my child just had a round of fever. he would hit 102.something in the afternoons, but was fine during the day... what did i do?? I Called The DR. i talked to the nurse, described what was going on, and she said they have been seeing alot o viral stuff going around. to give it 3 days. if no improvement or if he gets worse to bring him in. (he had fever again that day but then done. so only 2 days fever and i didn't bring him in)
i have heard my childs drs say many times to many parents to make an appt if the fever lasts for 3 days. you are past that if shes still getting a fever you need to take her in.

A couple things (that I first learned from some experienced moms on this site :) ).......first a low grade fever isn't always a bad thing and doesn't always require medication. A fever is fighting off the infection. I heard you don't need to medicate if under 102. And only medicate over 102 if uncomfortable. I always gave Tylenol at bedtime to help with sleep. Also as far as this morning, she could have been elevated a little because she was snuggled under her covers all night.

I would definitely call the nurse at the peds office because of the duration, but I'm just wondering if the Tylenol kind of extended her virus?

Take her to the doctor. My 8 year old has had a fever off and on two days ago. She never had a sore throat but complained of her ears hurting. She also seemed not very sick and she had good energy levels. I took her to the doctor yesterday late afternoon and it turns out she has strep throat. I never knew you can get strep without having a terribly sore throat. She is on antibiotics now and so has to stay home from school another day until she is not contagious anymore. Go in and get her tested. You don't want this to turn into something worse.
