My 6 Month Old Doesn't Roll Over?

I know, it's my third child. I should know what to do! But I am trying to get my son to roll over. he cannot roll from front to back or back to front. He has accidentally done front to back a couple of times since birth but that's it. We're doing a ton of tummy time now, we didn't do too much before because he would cry. I have gotten a referral for early intervention and should have this by the end of this week. But anyone else whose baby had trouble with this and has some good tips?

Otherwise, all developmental indicators seem normal. He is turning 6 months old Wednesday. He was born a little early (36 w 3 days) so this may be a factor? And he is also on the bigger side - 75th percentile. So this may also be a factor. Just curious if anyone has a tip. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My DD who is now 10months finally rolled at 9.5 months. The doc wasn't to concerned each time I brought the subject up at doctor appointments. She sat up by herself at 5.5months and was scooting around on the floor by 6.5 months. Each child is different. Here is when I learned this, in late Aug we had a family reunion and there were three babies, a 8month old my dd at 8.5 and a 9month old. The 8month old was walking with help with no teeth and not saying any words, my dd that sat up early and scooted and had 6 teeth and didn't even want to stand with help yet and the 9month old was like a monkey crawling on everything climbing on anyone to anything in reach but like baby 1 not talking with no teeth. Each child is different and will grow into different stages at different times. My daughter now says three words, rolls only form back to tummy with rare occasions tummy to back, scoots everywhere she wants and walks all over with help.
Hope this helps ease your mind!

My son didn't but he is fine. I think it was like 8 to 9 months. I did not realize it could have been a sign for something. I just believe they will do things on their own, in time. Both my kids did things so different from one another. Like my daughter by the age of 4 yrs old wrote her name and knew her letters and could read some. My son does neither, just not interested. But when you sit down with him, he is so smart. Now I am putting time every night 15 minutes to help him with writing. He is a lefty so its much harder.

I had my daughter and the same time my sister-in-law had hers. 20 days apart. Her daughter did everything first before my daughter who also came a month early. And my sister-in-law always made it a point, to ask why my daughter hasn't done the same things as her daughter. It upset me at times. Silly I know, because now the girls are 9 yrs old and my daughter is an A student. Not to be mean my niece is a C student. What I am trying to say is, that everyone goes at there own pace. You can not come pair the two. Look at the girls now. I thought my daughter was going to be slow all her life. NOT! :) I believe it will all turn out fine. I will say a prayer for him all week. :)

my son was always in the 90-95th percentile...and he rolled over at 9 months. once he got that down, crawling at 10 mo, walking at 12 mo, and running at 13/14 mo. bigger babies can have trouble with that lol :)

he was born about 2 weeks early, so his development should be 2 - 4 weeks delayed.

From babyzone.com:
'If the average baby begins to roll at 4 or 7 months, a baby born prematurely may not begin rolling until sometime after that. '

Early intervention why? He is just turning six months! He will roll over when he is ready. Babies today do not roll around like in the old days.
When babies were put on their bellies to sleep they learned to scoot and
roll over much earlier. From what I see today (including my grandsons)
babies do not roll over until much later. So relax and just enjoy him. Do not
worry. My two boys were born at 36 wks. and never had an issues.

My son was born at 36 +2. He hated tummy time until about 6 months or so. he was also later than his sisters to roll over. And I was told the whole time they were growing up that I should not be discouraged if they seemed late with things since they were premature. Just continue to encourage.
A friend of mine has a son that is about 4 now. He was a larger baby and also hated tummy time. He was late to roll over, finally did at 8 months, because he would get his arms stuck so did not want to do it. he was also later to crawl and would get mad because he could not get to where he wanted to be.
BTW, my kids all developed well, healthy 12 yr olds now. They were their age size (wore size 9 months at 9 months) until they were 18 months and then they just took off. Always in the 85%+ percentiles.
