Hi Moms,
My 5 1/2 month old son sleeps in his crib but only with the sleep positioner. He is big enough so he can roll over in it and then he'll stay awake. If I take away the positioner he won't go to sleep at all. I put him down for a nap yesterday without the positioner and he screamed for an hour before falling asleep. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do.I don't want to use the positioner forever. I'm not even sure if it's safe at this point to still be using it. Thank you to everyone.

We wanted a positioner but never ended up getting one- so I can't testify to the safety or anything- but I can say that they say once they can pick up their head, the danger of suffocation is less- but I can give you a suggestion on getting him broken of it.

He did eventually fall asleep after you put him down without the positioner, so I'd say to just stick to your guns. Don't go in, don't give him the positioner either. Just let him be and he will soothe himself to sleep. I would also be sure he isn't having gas pains or reflux pains and that's why he feels most comfortable with the positioner. It's probably not the issue but it can't hurt to make sure.

He won't want it forever. I would just give it to him. It makes him snug and probably more comfortable. I have a 7 month old - we just barely removed the positioner - she had no problems without it being there.

Maybe try to swaddle him? Usually with my son (who is now 20 months) a change like that would make him mad and he would cry - but he would get over it in a couple days. Im not sure what else to suggest since blankets are pretty much taboo - Sorry :(

Hi C., its been awhile for me since my daughter is almost 4yrs old now, but she had one and she loved it. I always put her on her side because she had gerd and would spit up and I was afraid she would choke. I did remove it when she was about 4mos old and luckly she transitioned easy with things (execpt the sippy cup:}, my new battle. What I would do is maybe roll a small receiving blanket and place it behind him from mid back down DURING NAP TIME ONLY when you can watch him closly, then slowly change it to either a smaller blanket or possibly cut it down, this may help with his transition. I would stick with not using the positioner as persistance is key. good luck:)
