My 5 Year Old Is Due for His Vacinations - He Already Has Issues

My 5 year old is now due for all of his vacinations before he enters Kindergarten. He has some autistic like issues, behavior, attention, repeating phases...
The more I read the more I want to flee the country before I give my child any shot that might make the situation worse.
I have read that after 2 yrs a child is better able to tolerate vacines.
Is it now safe that he is 5 to take him for his shots or should I try to spread them out over a longer period.
I would try anything to help my son. You can see he is such a wonderful boy that seems to slip in and out of these "disorganized" periods. I am so scared of losing more of him to whatever might be causing this. The doctors have ruled out autism because he is very social at times.

What can I do next?

J.,

I guess I don't really understand your request. In what way do you believe vaccinating will make his condition worse?

Sometimes I think that society and the media, as a whole makes us all hypochondriacs (sp?) and paranoid about every single condition out there... there was a time when it was all the rage to get an ADHD diagnosis and shove ritalin down their throats to fit inside what we call 'normal'.

If you are reading credible information, and truly researching vaccinations from an objective viewpoint, you would find that vaccines today are MUCH safer than they ever have been... I bet you were vaccinated... I was... and other countries are seeing an upswing in the very diseases we have erradicated because people are choosing not to vaccinate.

There is only speculation that there is a link between vaccines and autism.

Have you ever seen or witnessed or taken time to look into the diseases that we (the US) vaccinate for? Some of them are deadly, some can be life changing if they do survive, and some are just a nuisance and may require hosptialization and are totally treatable on the whole.

I know what choice is right for me and my family, but I highly suggest you do some research from credible sources to understand vaccines, and speak with medical professionals about your sons current 'issues'.

I hope you will look into it more, and I wish you the best in helping your son.

Good luck!

Hello,

I think some people don't realize that it isn't a law that you have to get vaccines in Illinois. If something is telling you not to, don't do it. I know they prevent harmful diseases, but I don't think they are for everyone. My daughter had some issues after receiving her 4 month shots, of course they couldn't tell us why but they assured us it wasn't the vaccine. How do they know this? My daughter is 5 now, and still hasn't had shots since that day. My thought is that if you're in doubt draft up a letter that says due to religious beliefs you choose to refrain from the shots, you have to list all of them out and then sign it. The schools in Illinois should have no issues with this. I think that the shots prevent some diseases that could cause an epidemic such as polio, but the fact that we have a chicken pox vaccine and my nephew still got chicken pox - doesn't mean it's for certain they won't get it. Also, it's your child, you can make the decision what to put into their body.
Also, here's the site that helped me:

Good luck!

Dear Stephanie,

We personally have chosen NOT to vaccinate our children. I will not sway your decision either way, but would encourage you to do some research.

There is a good book available by Dr. Stephanie Cave (I think). She gives you both the medical side and the health side, so it is not biased either way. She even gives you a plan if you choose to spread them out.

If you feel pressureed to make a decision, I would encourage you to sign the waiver. This would give you time to do your research and make the decision that is best for your son.

I would be happy to help you in any way that I can. I have worked with several paents with children who have autism, ADD, or aspergers.

Hi, I did not vaccinate any of my kids, it is not the law. They only tell you that. If your son already has"issues" I would not vaccinate. If you're worried about them not accepting him into school without shots, please know that it is not the law. You will need a waiver though. It is something you can get online. It is a religious exemption. If you need a copy of it contact Cody Chiropractic wellness Center at ###-###-####, they will be happy to answer any questions you have about vaccines and will not discriminate against you in any way.

If you're concerned, you should be able to sign a waiver and *religious* or *medicial* reasons as to why your child will not be vacinated. I know that daycares in the state of IL are mandated to provide such a waiver, I would assume schools fall under the same juridiction.

Good Luck, however you choose.

I would also check and see what vaccines are routine at this age. You might choose to selectively vaccinate against the really bad stuff, and not worry about the not-so-bad stuff. But you can absolutely opt out of any vaccines.

J.,
You could claim religious exemption, or can you find a pediatrician who would recommend not vaxing your son based on his existing issues? I have a ped who might do that. You could also check with Homefirst. They do not vaccinate kids and Dr. Eisenstein has seminars and a book on how to get around it. I think their website is www.homefirst.com.

Good luck to you...

Have you talked to your Doctor about his present condition? What are they suggesting you do to manage his condition now? What do they say is the reason, or how it will progress or not progress? What do they say would aggravate or be a detrimant?

It's hard for other mothers to respond to your request when this is at base a medical condition you are inquiring about and we know nothing of the whys or how come or then what. If you have fears over his medical condition, then you should talk to medical experts--either allopathic or holistic---but asking civilian moms, so to speak, I don't think is going to give you intelligent informed answers. People can only speak from their experiences, which can be drastically different than the condition and needs or your child. Just be responsible for your child and seek out the right diagnosis for him.

(I also want to add that if you want to opt out of vaccinations, and sign a waiver, please do NOT say it is for religious reasons, but state honestly why you are not vaccinating. Saying it's for religious reasons when it is not is a lie. It also does not help alter the course this issue has taken---the more people who speak up honestly for what is going on in realtiy the greater the chance that others will listen and some productive actions will be taken. But no one, like the medical community, will take offence if your refusal is relgioun based; if they know it is based on real consequences going on, like physical ailments resulting, then that is good stats for them to do something with.)
