Hi Moms on Sunday my son swallowed a quarter, so he says, he does know the difference between coins. We went to the ER cause he was coughing. They took an xray and said it was in his stomach and he would have to poop it out. Well he hasn't and he has been eating like normal, and pooping a little runny. Is this normal or should we call the doctor?? Thanks moms
Well we went back to the ER on Friday and after waiting 3 hours they took another x-ray and then they said he had passed it and he probably had a stomach virus. :-( Its very weird that we missed it, cause as gross as it sounds we smooshed every bowl movement he had. Well i guess only one of the many things i will have to look forward to.!! Thanks everyone for their advice!!
I'd call the doctor. I'd keep in close contact with the dr until the quarter passes. Seems a bit uncomfortable to poop out! Thank goodness it didn't get stuck.
Wow--thank goodness it did go down his throat rather than getting stuck and choking him. If the ER people said he will poop it out then great but if you feel even a little apprehensive about his eating or bowels, call his doctor. You will feel better and have a peace of mind. Good Luck!
I would definitely keep an eye on him. If the runny poop continues for another day and he doesn't have a normal bowel movement, then I would take him back in. You need to be sure it isn't stuck in his intestines on it's way out. It could be really dangerous. I would at least call his doc tomorrow and give them a heads up and see what they say.
Unfortunately, when I was 4, I fed my little brother and sister a couple of pennies. My mom said it took a few days but they finally pooped it out. Good luck! =)

I would consider the change in bowel habits a symptom. When you went to the ER it was in his STOMACH. If the coin is now in his intestines, it could be causing a blockage which the runny poop will go around. And unfortunately, I am speaking from experience. Another X-ray may be necessary to check on the progress of the coin. It will NOT dissolve or be absorbed into the body. It will have to come out... one way or another.

If it makes you feel any better, my brother (now 36 years old) swallowed two quarters at the same time, and yes, they eventually came out. Everything should be okay, but use your mommy instincts, if he has ANY pain at all or something reallly doesn't seem right, take him back to the ER.
Otherwise, know your son isn't the only one that looks at quarters and thinks... YUMMM!!

I have an ER nurse next door... he thinks it should have come out by now. It may have to be removed. Hopefully you will have seen it. It may not be able to come out. I mean, your boys are both SMALL.

OMG! I had a friend in 4th grade who swallowed a quarter but it lodged in his throat. Idiot was playing with it during class. He was rushed to the ER and it was removed for him.

Well all i can say is it will pass i have swallowed a quarter and a marbel before and i was about 9 or 10 just playing around and it took about a week but it passed. My Mom told my dad just to make him laugh at the time "because man he was mad" Just worry about her if I swallowed a quarter and two dimes and a nickel came out. It made my dad laugh and the only thing i did to help it pass faster was eat foods that make him poop alot. well i hope i helped and if not i hope i at least made you laugh.
