My 3.5 Year Old's Weird Tongue Thing

My son has always had issues with food. About 2 months ago I noticed that a third of his tongue on the left side is funny colored. It's not white or hairy or any of the other stuff I've looked up. It's not from color in foods he eats because it never changes and he eats yogurt regularly. He tells me it doesn't hurt. It looks like a third of his tongue is a different shade of pink with a white border. I'm going to make an appointment with his doc. We've been out of the country for 6 weeks or I'd have taken him sooner. Also it was like this before we left the country so it's unrelated. Thanks moms. I'm totally freaking out.

What can I do next?

could it be geographic tongue? Google it and look at the pics of it. Geographic tongue has an irregular like border and the patches look like a map, hence the name. Common and harmless. Some experts think allergies can trigger this response but the cause remains a mystery. It is usually painless. I would stll follow up with a doctor just to be sure!

My daughter was born with a birthmark on the center of her tongue. It is a bigger oval that stays pinker and does not seem to have the bit of white fur like the rest. Like you son's it does not change with food, drink ect.... It has had zero effect
It has faded a little since birth though, she is now 4 1/2.

Don't freak out.
I'm guessing your skin and your son's skin
also has different colors . . . . freckles, birth marks, etc.
Please stay calm and have the doctor look at it soon.

Don't bother with the doc, take him to a pediatric dentist to get the diagnosis of Geographic Tongue.

Here's a link to some pictures of it, plus other stuff but mostly geographic tongue.
