Ok so I am new to here but I need to talk to some other mothers my son caught strep in April and the lymph nodes in his neck swelled up. He has a big one on the left side of his neck and a small one right next to it and than he has one on the right side that is not that big. I decided to look online to see what could cause them to remain enalrged and just about everything I read scared me so in May his ped ordered a cbc and sed rate everything he said came back good I belive than his WBC was 13. He also has a iron deficiency that we have been battling too. Well he has had 4 or 5 postive strep test since April we were refered to an ent and he said that his lymph nodes did not feel alarming in anyway. I just recently had another cbc done on 9/22 and everything again came back normal his WBC this time was 10.8 and I am so happy cause we have his iron up to 13. I would love to know if anyone else has dealt with or heard about problems like this. I mean if it was cancer wouldn't something have showed in his blood work. He has no other symptoms as far as I can tell and believe me I watch him close lol no night sweats and no weight loss his nodes have not gotten any bigger thank the lord and the doc checked his spleen and he says that its not swollen or anything. Another lymph node has popped up on the back of his neck by the base of his skull but that one is smaller and all th lymph nodes are moveable which I have been told is a good thing. And also I was told that a doctor can tell if the lymph node is something to worry about just based off the feel of it?? I have scared myself so bad thinking that my son might have some form of cancer and the doc is missing it but than I tell myself that after a specialist and 5 doctors if something was not right one of the docs would have caught it by now. If anyone has had any thing similier to this I would love to hear from you maybe that will help ease my mind
My son has had a swollen lymph node on the back of his neck since 2 (he'll be 6 soon). I was SO freaked out when I first saw it but not anymore. He's seen 3 doctors and noone is concerned. It rolls, it hasn't gotten bigger and he never complain about it.
My friend (that is a natural health advisor) has had a lymph node for about 10 years on the back of his neck and it's no concern.

my son had swollen lymph nodes regularly thru his childhood. The dr was never concerned, & it seemed to coincide with allergy flareups.... which meant I, too, did not feel alarmed.
& I know that mine do flareup....& my dr doesn't seem worried. :)
If the dr isn't finding anything to be concerned about then don't stress. I'm an adult and pregnant with my third baby. They had concerns about one of my lymph nodes being swollen and sent me for ultrasound. Come to find out nothing wrong just slightly enlarged. They said sometimes it's enlarged just because. Either after having strep or just born that way. Wouldn't hurt to have the dr check at each of his check ups and just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get larger. Otherwise it might just be that way forever with nothing wrong.
My daughter had a lymph node swell when she was 18 months and last time I checked she still had it. (She is now 5) She's had all of the testing done also. My Dr said if I felt completely bothered about it my next step would be surgery to remove it. But like your son at this point...I've been told over and over it is nothing to worry about. And I'd hate to put her under unnecessary surgery.
I don't worry about it so much anymore. I just keep an eye on it and have the Dr continue checking on it at her appointments.
Lymph nodes swell frequently in response to infection. I think you have scared yourself to death by looking on line and finding all the horror stories. If there was anything really dangerous, yes, it would have showed up on the blood tests.
That said, I think you have to look at your child's weak immune system - if the nodes are still swollen and he keeps getting strep, there's a problem there. There's a lot you can do with supplementation that will help and not interfere with whatever you do medically. Still, it's so much easier and much cheaper than endless medical interventions.

ETA: Don't be afraid to raise your fears with the doctors. You can say "I am concerned about _____ disease. What tests have you done that ruled that out?"
My son's lymph nodes had swollen during an ilness and stayed that ways for a few years. The doctor said it was normal.
The job of lymph nodes is to fight infection. Having swollen lymph nodes usually only means that one has or has recently had an infection. Sometimes it takes a while for them to shrink back to "normal."
I have an enlarged lymph node that's been there for 20-30 years. Each time I have an exam the doctor mentions it. It's not been a problem.
Because your son has been to the doctor and the doctor says he's OK I'd stop thinking and worrying about it.
