My 3 Yo Asks for Food CONSTATLY!

I have a 3 yo little girl who asks for food constantly. She's not fat, but she is really big for her age (her ped. says she's the size of a 5yo) and always has been. The doctor thinks it's because she may have wiped out her full sensor when she had a super high (almost dangerous) bilirubin count as a new born. How do I get her to stop asking for foo every 5 minutes?

What can I do next?

I have a 3.5 year old son when he asks for snacks ( which is allot) I will try to get him to drink a small glass of milk he can take it in his "sippy" and walk around with it. He just wants "something" but doesnt really know what Milk is more filling than Juices or water and usually but not always that does the trick.

If she's not overweight, I wouldn't worry. she may be going through a growth spurt. Also, I would try and get her on a feeding schedule. Make snack and meals at the same time everyday. Try and get her to eat only healthy foods. Make sure she gets plenty of exersise during the day and you won't have to worry about her weight. I hope this helps. My nephew is big for his age but he's within the right weight group for his age.

What does the doc recommend in the case of her sence of being full not existing? I've never heard of that! Wow. I know how hard it is to say no to a kid that knows they aren't hungry, let alone one who doesn't know it! Maybe a firm eating schedule with lots of activities in between to keep her mind busy? And lots of healthy snacks? good luck!

My daughter asks for food all the time too. She is 5. I let her have her 3 meals then small healthy snacks. I think alot has to do with her being bored. Maybe your child has the same problem

a lot of the time when my 3yr old asks for food outside the regular meal or snack times he is bored try keeping her really busy with activities or outings and if it still does not work then just set certian times for meals and snacks and if she askes for food in between the set times just say no im sure she gets plenty of food at meals and snacks. sometimes its hard to say no but sometimes you have to.

Hello! the only thing i can posibly think if you can not get her to stop asking then just make sure you ae only giving her healthy foods and no chips instead veggies or fruit or paenuts, applesauce. my kids eat allday but they are really small but i still makw sure that they eat healthy but they like salad so it's really easy for me they will say they are hungry and I;'ll say go eat some string cheese or carrts(Baby) when it's late and I know they have eaten really good or I think it's to late to give them food a glass of ,milk or a glass of water. You can also just say no.

Hi E.,

Like many of the other moms have said, you might wish to try making sure she has plenty to do during the day so that she doesn't get bored. People tend to eat when they get bored, lord knows I do :) If you keep her active with things she likes (whether its physically active, or just reading and playing with toys) they will keep busy and keep her mind off of food. Also, if that doesn't work, she may truly be hungry, and in that case its what you feed them not really how much. Try giving her water, because that fills up an empty tummy, and also try negative calorie foods (like celery and cucumbers -- there is a whole list of fruits and vegetables online) actually take more calories to chew and digest than are in the foods in the first place. That way, you don't have to feel like you are depriving your daughter, and the vitamins in those foods certainly won't hurt :) Good luck :)

I'd get a thorough check up to make sure she's not vitamin or mineral deficient which can sometimes effect food cravings.

But if she's not fat, and you're giving her healthy foods, some people just have a really high metabolism. I don't know what kinds of things you're feeding her, but you might try giving her some high protein and something with some fat in it. Both of those can help with feeling of fullness. And cut out anything sweet.

Hi E.,

I also have a 3 year old who is always hungry. She is also the size of a 5 year old. Even wears a size 5/6. While her twin is smaller still in 4T.

I just make sure that I give them plenty of fruits and veggies to munch on during the day. There isnt anything my Savannah doesnt like, she'll eat it all!!

Do you think maybe she is a bored eater?
