im not sure what the problem is, if it hurts to go or he is scared to go.. a few days he would poop normal and i wouldnt be able to tell he even went unless smell, but then out of nowhere he would tense his whole body up, scream, cry and not want to be touched or helped. i would like to start the potty training process, but that is not going to happen if he cant go normal. ive tried to sit him on his potty but he screams and crys. any opinion on what i should do that might help would be much appreciated :)

What can I do next?

My daughter did this same thing around 2. I was hoping to potty train then also, but didn't b/c of this. It seemed to start when I started introducing the potty. She went regularly so I didn't think she was constipated or had a blockage. The dr did not seem concerned and she just grew out of it. With potty training, when she acted like that I would just ask if she wanted to sit on the potty and try to go and she always answered no. Might just be that he's becoming more aware of what pooping feels like. She was potty trained by 3. I didn't push it b/c I've heard of kids needing to take laxatives and stuff b/c they get so anxious about going on the potty. Good luck!

Make sure he has a really good diet. A not so great diet can cause alot of digestive issues. but see your dr if you need to. If it's something serious, they can help or at least give you some advice.

You could ask your pediatrician about a stool softener. I know a friend who gives her daughter Miralax as per her doctor for hard stools. They can become scared to go if it gets hard and painful, and the longer they wait, the harder it gets, so it's a cycle. Pears, prunes, prune juice, white grape juice, stay away from bananas and yogurt. Push liquids. My guess is that he's a bit constipated, and scared to go because it hurts. No put pressure on him just yet.....soften up the poop, then start the potty training. That's my 2 cents.

There's a book that gets wonderful reviews that can help a child with these issues, called It Hurts When I Poop.

not sure how well your 2 yr old communicates... just ASK if it hurts. can you tell by its consistency? apple juice/beans etc can help.
otherwise don't force it. if they feel forced to sit on potty they will just resist more.
they also have little tiny suppositories that can help.
