Hi Moms,
My 2 yr old has had these small knots in his glands on the sides of his neck since he was about 9 months. Well, at 9 months there was only 1 that I felt and pediatrician said, don't worry that's normal. But now there seems to be more tiny ones and on both sides? Another pediatrician (from same office) said, it's okay, just know that they are there but everything should be fine. I can't help but worry my self sick over it. He is such a sweet little guy and he is never sick. Does anyone know anything about this.

Please help?

My son has them too. I have been told they are just his glands. They do swell larger when he is sick. His are just larger then most peoples when in the "well" state.

hi L.,
it is such a coincidence that an hour ago i was talking to my mother about the same thing. i was telling her how i had never noticed them and that they may be a product of a throat and ear infection he has had for the past week. he has been sick before but this time it was worse, i got sick too. i've never had such a terrible throat ache that also hurt my ears, lasting 5-7 days. i felt terrible, where all my glands were swollen, congested, my neck was stiff and my whole body hurt. its not until you are sick too that you can relate to the discomfort they are going through. he went on anibiotics and is doing better. unfortunately i didnt ask the pediatrician that i saw at miami childrens when i went to the ER. but i looked into this web site: http://health.howstuffworks.com/adam-200102.htm
let me know if it helps any... N.

ps i found an even better explanation

I agree with a second opinion from a totally different practice. If I have learned anything as a mother, its to follow your instincts. If their explanations are not calming your worries, you need to find someone who can, or someone to tell you what is going on. Good luck, please let us know how it turns out.

Follow your heart L. if you feel like you need a second opinion from another Doctor, than by all means do just that, until you are at peace knowing you've done all you can.

Hi L.,

I would definitely get a dr's opinion that is not from that same practice. Sometimes these doctors shrug things off too easily. If not make a bigger deal to your regular pediatrician and tell him you need a better explanation then "ITS NORMAL".

L.,

I have had the same thing for well over 10 years; I can't tell you how long. They even hurt a little sometimes. I went to an ear, nose, and throat doctor about eight years ago. He told me they were lymph nodes that the enlarged nodes were the result of a past virus(es) (even as simple as a little cold). I, too, was told they are nothing to worry about.

I guess it is similar to having a few little scars from chicken pox.

My 2 yr old son had them but they're gone now. I still have mine from a really long time ago and they r a little sensitive to the touch. Like many others said, they're swollen lymph nodes and doctor says not to worry but do get another doctor's opinion so you feel better.

Hi L.

My 2 yr old son also has a knot/lump on just one side of his neck (gland) since about 4-5 mos old. We had brought it to the attention of my pediatrician who noted it in my sons records, a few months later we brought Preston in for a sick appt (cold/flu) & made the dr. feel it again (was a pea, now size of peanut m&m) dr thought this was due to illness but airing on the side of caution, sent to pediatric specialist, who thought it was a small tumor, that my son was probably born with and that he wouldn't nor would his associate feel it was necessary to operate on - but that we should follow up in a year. Nothing has changed since our initial visit, & I'm really not worried about it. But to ease your mind you might want to get it looked at anyway.

Hope this helps

K.

Hi L.,
I don't know if this will make you feel better or not, but my daughter has a few of those on her neck also. They have been there since she was a couple weeks old. The pediatrician said they were just lymph nodes and there was nothing to worry about. They haven't changed in appearance, except they get really big and stick out when she cries really hard. I have never really worried about them. The doctor said they will become less noticeable as she gets older. She will be two next month and they don't look any different.
Maybe hearing that other kids have them and there is nothing horrible associated with them will make you feel better.
:)
