I had a similar problem with my son and used a little tough love. We have a strick routine with bedtime (7:30 an alarm clock goes off) so they know it is time. We take bath, read a book, say prayers and go to bed. When he cries I give him 15 minutes and then go back and tell him it is time to go to sleep, and keep doing this with less frequency until he goes to sleep. This took me about three nights, but it worked like dream. Sorry you are having this problem, espeically if you are a single mother, that has to be terribly hard.
I have found that even when things don't work, as long as I am consistent, it helps them, ultimatley feel secure.
This to shall pass....

Can't help. I have the same problem, only my daughter doesn't go to sleep until about 10:00 at night!
Good luck.

You might suspect an ear infection if she seems a bit crabby during the day, too. My kids sometimes have fever, sometimes not with ear infections. The fussiness gets worse at night because the pressure builds up, and gets worse over time because the infection gets worse. Usually they don't want to eat/drink also. Use your gut instinct. As the previous poster said, too much sleep during the day can do this, as can significant milestones.

Good luck!

hey Kim,
My daughter is 21 months old and she used to do the EXACT same thing when she turned about 18 or 19 months We would put her to bed at her normal time and she would fall right to sleep then around 10 or 11 she would wake up screaming and not wanting to go back to sleep! We couldnt figure it out then i realized she was taking too many naps during the day(she was still on 2 a day) So we weened her off her morning nap and pushed her bed time up to 8 intead of 7 and since then shes slept better at night na during her nap! so maybe thats the problem????? Im not sure what else it might be except for maybe she wakes up and knows you will come in her room if she makes a fuss! I had to do that with my daughter too! let her know that I am here for her if she really needs me but that she needs to be able to sooth herself back to sleep if she wakes at nite! I hope i helped you out a little bit! take care!

She might be cutting teeth. My son did not sleep well at all when he was cutting teeth. I gave him a dose of motrin when this happened. It would help for him to sleep better. I say motrin because it lasts longer than tylenol.
