My 19 month old daughter started climbing out of her crib about 3 weeks or so ago. I caught her doing it a couple times so i see how she is getting out. The problem is that i have all ceramic tile in my home and i am afraid she is going to get hurt. My mom said that i should turn down one side of the crib but i am afraid that she will wake up and not realize it down and fall out. I am at my wits end trying to figure out what to so do with her. I asked other parents if they thought that she was too young to be climbing out of her crib... she is a little more advanced for her age.. or maybe i want to say over developed..... I need help....
Thank you everyone for your advice about Bria climbing out of her Crib. I decided that i will take the bed apart and turn it into a toddler bed for her safety and my sanity. I never thought that i could just turn the crib down to a little bed that would be easier for her to be able to climb out of. Thank you all so much for your advice and putting my fears at ease. :)
You could buy foam pads to put on the floor next to her crib. You know the ones you see on the floor at preschools and gyms? They sell a big pack of them at Sams Club for $20. I put them in my sons room under his rug, since we have hard floors too. I really love them. They make the floor nice and soft. Good luck! T.
Skye is probably ready for a toddler bed one that is low to the ground like the car bed. she would not fall as far to the ground it would be more like rolling over. put a carpet right next to the bed.
My response to this is to if you have a crib that turns into a toddler bed to change it. They make long enough side rails that it will be just the same. I did that and put a step stool on the small part to get out. As mine didn't get out of the crib, I just thought it was time. She would get out and go play with her toys, or just come straight to my room. She'll enjoy the freedom of it.
My suggestions are either a toddler bed or a crib tent. A crib tent looks like a good solution if you are not ready for her to be in a toddler bed yet. Hi M., If she is climbing out of her crib she needs to go to a toddler bed, for her safety. She will feel like a big girl. If you are worried about her getting out of the toddler bed. Take her to her bed explain that she has to stay in her room/bed and leave her room. When she gets out of bed, walk her back to her bed and repeat. It will take about a week of this but she will come to understand. I did this with my girls and it worked. S.
I have kind of an addendum question to this one. M. has gotten some great advice.
I have a 16 month old son, and as far as I know, he hasn't made any attempts to climb out of his crib, but this is something I worry about as we have hardwood flooring in his room. We do have a rug under and by his crib but I don't think it would be a good enough cushion to break a nasty fall. I was curious as to how you transition a young toddler into a toddler bed from a crib, if they seem comfortable there?

My son started climbing out of his crid as soon as he learned how to walk. when he was about 13 months I took him out of his crib, I bought him a bed and put the mattress on the floor( with some pillows on the side), after a couple of months I put the boxsprings under it and them the frame. Once they learn how to get out there's no way to keep them in. You need to get her out before she does get hurt.

I had the same problem. They are going to climb out regardless, but she may still want to sleep in her crib because she feels safe there. My daughter has been climbing out since that age as well, and she is now almost 25 months and still in her crib. I do have a toddler bed next to her and if she wakes up in the night and climbs out and comes to me, i put her back down in the toddler bed, but she usually ends up on the floor by morning. At least that is lower to the ground. But i did get a 6'x6' rug for $100 and put that under the crib and the bed just in case. Do that, but don't really worry too much. She will get better and better each time she climbs out. I know it's scary, but the rug will ease some of your fears.
I turned both my cribs into toddler beds around 12 months for my son and 14 months for my daughter (now ages 2 and 1 respectively).
I put long pillows along side their bed so if they did "fall out" or roll over the edge they had a cushioned padding.. and trust me they still don't wake up even if there isn't a pillow there.
Sounds to me it would be better for Skye to come out of a toddler bed then to "fall" from up high, especially since it's a tile floor.
Everyone said I did toddler beds too early, but it works for us and my 14 month old even wakes up and comes and gets me in the morning.

Your baby definately ready for a toddler bed. Buy her one of them. In Walmart.com or Toys'r us you can chose one of them very nice just for $50, like Dora theame, or Disney Princess. I boudht for my daughter a Dora bed and she LOVES IT! Also these beds are lower and she can climb up herself.
Or you can turn down one side of the crib and put "Bed safety rail", which you can buy in Toys'r'us, or Babys'r'us. And put a soft rug in front of yours daughter bed.

My daughter to started climbing out around the same time, I started her at that time in her toddler bed. I was told she was too young but it has worked out great. she is now 21/2 and has transitioned into a twin bed with rails. She thinks she is such a big girl.

I am a mother of 3 and all 3 of my children were out of a crib by 19 months. Your mom is right you will need to put down one side or get her a todler bed which is lower to the ground. Maybe you have one of the cribs that you can lower or convert. They also sell these little removable barriers that will prevent her from rolling off while she sleeps but it offers a far less dangerous exit for her when she wakes. Everything I have read and heard says that when they can climb out of their crib it is time for a toddler bed or a real bed (usually with side rails to prevent them from falling out). I would definitely put soft padding or a rug of some sort next to her bed in case she climbs/falls out.

My son starting walking at 9-1/2 months and climbed out of his crib around the same time. He has been sleeping in a regular bed since 9 months. I bought a futon so it would be close to the floor, in case he fell out. He never has fallen out. We also have tile and wood floors. Just an idea. We also got a chance to work on him staying in his bed at a young age and within a week of putting him in the bed he slept in there through the night, it is great....he is almost 4 now.
HELLO! I have always been afraid of this and since Adrian was little, I have been putting him in a little sleep sac/sleeping bag. You can buy loads of them online and they fit up to 3 yrs old.
