Hi, My 11 month old son still wants me to hold his bottle. He will not hold it on his own. When he does hold it he puts it up side down. I fix it for him. Then, he does it again. I am looking for tip's on ways to get him to hold it himself.

What can I do next?

have you tried putting his hands on it with yours like hes kind of " helping" you hold it. my daughter did the samething till she was 8months old then she wouldnt even take her bottle anymore. so i started giving her a sippy cup an she held that just fine. maybe he thinks hes " to big" for the bottle lol... babies to have their own minds ya know lol. they try to grow up to fast. good luck :-)

When I am holding my daugher she want's me to hold her bottle for her. If I sit her on the floor and give her the bottle she will pick it up. She is almost a year old. Just keep trying. Sometimes I prop her down on a pillow and give her the bottle. That helps too.

My daughter never held her bottle and I would try to let her but she never had any intreast. Try a sippy cup instead, my daughter would hold her own cup. Maybe you son likes the bonding time you two have at feeding time.

My daughter did the same thing! I think its just laziness. I would catch her every so often holding it herself, and when I would look, she would drop it back down. So I just started handing it to her and not helping her at all. Eventually she learned that mommy wasn't going to do it anymore and she did it herself.

my advice is to stop fixing it for him. he's a big boy now and if he wants it bad enough he'll do it by himself.

My daughter did the same thing for awhile because she (being a smart alick from birth) figured why do it when mom can. She was perfectly capable of doing it herself but decided to not take on the responsibility. Reading into this, I decided that I wouldn't hold it for her. I would hold her, but not the bottle. I'de set the bottle within her reach, on her belly or hold it but not while its in her mouth. If she wanted it in her mouth she would have to take it and put it there. When he is hungry enough he will do it. My daughter finally caught on to what I was doing and when she finally did it herself, I could see her little mouth smiling as she was drinking her bottle.

Did you ask your doc? Maybe he's got a motor skill delay of some sort.

If not, he could be pushing his luck. If you know for sure his development is fine, maybe don't be so generous with your help. Pushing a little independence on a child never hurt.
