My 10 Month Old Has Started Waking in the Middle of the Night!!!

My 10 mo. old DD has started waking up in the middle of the night crying. She's not hungry or wet. She's been a model sleeper up to this point. She has been doing it every night for the past 8 days. She won't go back to sleep unless my DH or I go in and rub her back until she falls back asleep. Any suggestions on what to do? Last night I tried letting her cry it out and she screamed for 45 minutes. She was still standing up when I finally gave in and went in to pat her back so we could all go back to sleep. First - why has she suddenly started doing this? Secondly - how can I get her to stop? HELP!

What can I do next?

She may be teething or experiencing separation anxiety for the first time. It will pass (believe it or not). Has anything changed with her routine? Changed bed time, taken away a paci, moved? Night terrors occur within an hour of falling asleep so if it's during that time it could be that.

My daughter (almost 2) is an awesome sleeper but she has gone through phases like this with either waking up in the middle of the night or not wanting to go to sleep without us in the room. This is going to be soooo hard but it will help I promise. Let her cry it out. If you don't she knows that crying will bring you back in and she gets her way. If you let her cry it out then she will eventually give it up and go back to sleep. Stand outside the door and tell her you are there and it is okay to go night-night. But don't go in. Good luck to you!

Is she teething? My son (who is 11.5 months) has been like this throughout the last few months when he's teething real bad. He'll wake up in the middle of the night and need comforting. This coule be her problem too. I use Hylands teething tablets and it does wonders for my son.

Good luck!

First of all, count yourself lucky she has been a great sleeper until now. Mine didn't sleep through the night until 18 and 20 months. (I am so jealous!)

Do you have a pet that is going into the room at night?
Are there tree limbs scratching against the window?
Is the laundry soap you use irritating?
Try the next size up diaper?
A/C vent pointed on her?
Who knows, just some ideas....

Check into night terrors. My friend's son had them but I think he was older.

I would say just make her feel secure and reassure her; it will go back to normal eventually.

Sorry I am no more help, I hope she catches some ZZZZZ's soon!

Sounds like teething to me. Try using the baby Orajel before you put her down to sleep.
