I was gifted a Pack'n'Play many months ago, but it lived in my car trunk for a long time and when I recently took it out to set it up, I noticed that it smells musty. I don't see any mold on it and my 10 mo old boy doesn't seem bothered by it, but I was wondering if anyone has suggestions about how to clean it or get rid of the must??? THANKS MAMAs!

Dear T., I would say Clorox clean up or hydrogen peroxide! Wipe it down and let it dry. Grandma Mary

Wash it as you would normally, but add 1/4 cup baking soda to the detergent. That should help eliminate the odor.

Even though it doesn't seem like your little guy doesn't mind the smell, It really isn't healthy for him. A good idea might be to spray it down with lysol and let it dry. It will smell better and it will be better for him and you!

Try setting it outside for a while, if it's not raining of course :)
That may help air it out. You could also try Febreeze, but personally I don't like the smell of it.

Oxy Clean works wonders. I use it on all of my sons stuff and it has never bothered him. You can just spray it on and let it sit then wipe it down with a damp cloth or towel.

We bought one from a tag sale for my parents' house and it was musty too, but we used simple hydrogen peroxide to disinfect it and it worked like a charm. You have to wipe the entire thing on both sides and let it dry fully first. Easy and no chemicals!

Hi T.
How are things going?
The difficult thing about musty spells is getting at the cause because you are not seeing mold. Perhaps just putting it into the sun will do it but...

Is the padding the problem? or is it the mesh etc? Can you distinguish? That would be the determining factor but...

My suggestion is to use chlorox, then wash it down with soap to get the chlorox off, then rinse well and air it dry. If you have to dry it with an electric heater, do that. Of course taking all precautions.

God bless you and all you do
K.

Try wiping it down with Clorox wipes and then let it dry before putting the baby back in it. I used those to keep my pack and play clean and germ free for a couple of years and it worked beautifully!
