Hey mommas...I have a question all women hope they never go through...miscarriages! A little background...I have a 2 yr old who was concieved the first month of trying. I of course hoped it would be a repeat for number 2...HA I have only been trying 4 monthes (I know not that long at all), but have had 3 miscarriages in a row. The first 2 happened mid month before a missed period...just mid month bleeding that my doc says had to be early early miscarriages.

Now this month...I am 23 days "late" and no aunt flow! I took a blood test at doc and I am NOT pregnant. However I did get a pregnant pee stick on day 5 (of being late)...then I took another test the next day and it was neg. So the doc tells me that I miscarried again and my body just hasnt expelled anything yet, but to wait and my period will come.

I have a couple questions...any advice on what I should do now? Should I wait a while to "try" again to let me body rest...doc says no need to. In my head I would think that something is not right somewhere in the "system" to be causing miscariages...??? The doc says there are meds I can take to "thicken my uterus, then stop the meds and my period will come" But I hate to go on meds for something like that!

I am red head (bleeds easily) who is border line anemic most of the time...do you think this period will be heavy or concerning in anyway? I am also traveling to NY and VA in 9 days for a 2 week vacation!! This is just bad timing : - ) The last thing I need is to be mid air and see aunt flow!

I wouldnt be concerned if I just didnt get pregnant in 4-12 monthes...but the misscariages are getting under my skin per say! Any advice is appreciated : - )

What can I do next?

I got pregnant on the first try with babies 1 and 2, but miscarried when I got pregnant the first month with #3. My doctor said to wait to try again until after I got a regular period...not the miscarriage bleeding, but a regular period after that...which could be 6 weeks after the MC. I think you need to wait a month or two before trying again. It took 3 more months but we are now pregnant with #3, hoping not to MC again.

1/2 of all conceptions end in spontaneous abortions (very early miscarriages). 20% more end in early miscarriages. Most of these go unnoticed, but when you are monitoring your body so closely, and there are tests that you can use so early, you are noticing these occurances more often.

I had three early miscarriages (6 weeks, 9 weeks, and one week along) before having my completely normal and healthy pregnancy with my daughter. I did not wait between trying to get pregnant again.

Most doctors will not be overly concerned about your experience so far, as it is in the realm of normal. If you feel waiting a month or two would be helpful/healthy for you, then do that. The biggest reason doctors recommend waiting is that it makes "dating" the pregnancy easier for them.

Your body, is trying to tell you something. You need to get a full work-up. Check your hormone levels, nutrient levels, iron levels, thyroid, and adrenal gland. I wouldn't worry about "bad timing" as much as what is going wrong with your body. You should wait to try conceiving until you get to the bottom of this. Don't worry about your period, just make sure you find out what is wrong.

Miscarriages just simply suck. I had 3 before my son and one between my two sons (who are now in their 20's) My mother also had multiple miscarriages, and she swore by D/C's--said they would 'clean you out' and make sure there was no residue left from the miscarried pregnancy. And to tell the truth, I had a D/C after the third before my son, and after the one between them, so her theory was borne out by circumstance anyway. :-) With 3 miscarriages in 4 months, I'd say you might benefit from the D/C just to 'start fresh' but I'd also say that once a woman has had 3 then most OB's will start looking at infertility concerns and testing. So, the suggestion of a second opinion might be good as well.

Best of luck!

You could always ask for an ultrasound to verify a miscarriage before you take your trip. You could still miscarry like a normal period; it will probably contain more clots. There's also the chance of heavy bleeding that needs immediate medical attention.

I've had a number of m/cs myself. Most of them resolved on their own, but I had to quickly get myself to the doctor's office for one with heavy bleeding and another one I needed the D&C because it never expelled itself. I'd be nervous about the chance for the heavy bleeding if you're going on a trip. If you are flying, I'd postpone it if you start having cramping. The heavy bleeding was a bit scary but quickly remedied once the doctor did his thing.

I don't recommend the D&C, but it might be your best choice at this point with the trip so close(ultrasound first, though). I prefer the meds over the D&C, but not sure if you'll have the time to make sure it works.

I'm so sorry for your losses.

My suggestion is the same as a couple other moms ,to get your progesterone levels checked. This was the cause of my miscarriage and I had weekly injections with my first pregnancy. I also had to have a D&C . Do get an ultrasound first to confirm.

I too, have had multiple miscarriage. It turns out that I have issues with my thyroid, which can cause miscarriages. You may want to have it checked. Also, as far as waiting, my doctor suggested to wait 2 periods to start trying to get pregnant again.

Most woman have multiple very early miscarraiges, they just usually don't know it b/c they don't realize they are pregnant. Just telling you this to give you some hope :)

I would wait a few months, let your levels and everything get settled, and to try and get your anemia underway. Are you by any chance taking any iron supplements? Have fun on your trip!

Ask your doctor to test your progesterone levels. I had several miscarriages before I successfully carried to term. I used Progesterone suppositories for the first 3 months. Unfortunately, miscarriages are very common and many OB/GYNs wait until there is a "pattern" to look into it further.
Make sure to follow up with your doc. My miscarriages never spontaneously passed and I needed D&C's after each of them.
As for the "bad timing" of your period--I guess you'll just need to be prepared.

Hi! I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. Have you thought about getting a second opinion? & Maybe you should do what you feel is best - if you feel that you should wait a little before trying again, then maybe that's what you should do.
Good luck! I hope it all works out for you!

I've been going through multiple miscarriages myself, after giving birth to 5 perfectly healthy babies with no problems.
What I found out from an ultrasound and blood tests is that I have PCOS and low progesterone. So in order for me to carry another healthy child I have to change my eating and start progesterone supplements.
I would ask your doctor to run some tests. 3 miscarriages back to back is not normal, something is going on and you may be able to fix the problem.
