Mucus/Phelgm In Throat While Pregnant

Hi all,
I will be 7 months pregnant at the end of June. This is my second child and I did not have this problem with the first. Since I was about 12 weeks in I started having excess mucus and phelgm in my throat. I had to spit constantly for the first 5 months. I don't have to spit as much now, but there is still this lump like the mucus is stuck in my throat. Often my hacking up causes me to vomit. This has become really exhausting. FYI- I've never had allergies, use almond milk, and keep dairy to a minimum. Has anyone successfully been able to get this to stop? I'm going to try a Neti Pot tomorrow, but I really welcome other suggestions. Gum also helped alot at first, but not so much anymore and of course not when I go to bed. Any help is appreciated!

What can I do next?

It's one of those things that is not mentioned very often about pregnancy but I had that problem. It's typical, as mucus production increases during pregnancy and your sinus passages swell up more since your blood volume is increased. It wasn't as bad with my second son as my first son, the first one was a December baby the second one a late July baby. I figured out the better I hydrated myself the better off I was, it was easier for me to remember to stay hydrated the second time around because it was so hot. So drink more water, add some lemon or lime to it to make it more palatable and you can try a Neti Pot, it might help or even just saline to help soothe and thin things out.

I have read that pregnancy increases overall mucus production. Fun huh?!
I believe it. I have been blowing my nose like CRAZY. As for the throat thing..I always have post nasal drip thats just not new for me, I have been blessed with allergies pregnant or not lol Anyway, the neti-pot should help you, hope it does!

Ugh! I feel you woman! When I was prego with all 3 kids, I had that "lump" feeling in my throat...like I always had to clear it and I always felt like I had phlegm back there...never did tho, just ALWAYS felt like it! I tried everything and nothing worked for me...sometimes I felt like my throat was swelling or something? Oh, how it drove me crazy!!! I even talked with My Dr. about it...but there was nothing they could do. Sometimes I found that taking a long hot shower would help...atleast trick myself into believing I had helped solve the problem. It didn't go away til I had my kids. The hot shower before bed is my best advice, atleast I could sleep right after, sometimes it didn't work...I spent many a night sleeping on my couch sitting straight up because that was the only way I felt like I could breathe without constant swallowing.

I am sorry I have no cure/remedy for you...hope you find some comfort in knowing you are not alone...and that it will be OK and that it will eventually go away!
