My son hated those melts too, said they were just as bad. He also didn't like the Cepacol fizzers. I like the suggestion of chocolate syrup, might have to try that sometime...
My son is 15 months old and is very congested. He takes mucinex to help break up the junk, but he gags at the flavor/medicine-y-ness of it.
Anyone ever use the mucinex mini melts? Did you put it into food, applesauce? Suggestions, please.
BTW - it is a virus, we don't use antibiotics unless absolutely necessary (fever, ear infection, etc.). We do go to a chiropractor, too, and watch his diet for mucus causing foods. We are about as natural and organic as you can get, so please hold off on the holistic answers because we fully agree and are implementing them already! Sometimes it's just a virus!
TIA!

Our 16 month old just caught something this week, the same chest congestion, cough, runny nose...gets really bad at night. I know the doctor won't prescribe anything because she has no fever, diarrhea, vomiting. Anyhow, I have been giving her a mixture of green tea (4 oz, as warm as you can get it without burning), one tablespoon of honey, 1/2 of the recommended dose, b/c of her age, of triaminic (cough syrup recommended by the ped. b/c it is made with honey and natural ingredients, supposedly) and 1/2 packet of mucinex mini melts. I put it in a cup with straw and she drinks it about a half hour before bed. She loves the hot and calls it her "hot hot."
I think putting it in the applesauce in the morning would be a good idea. For us, I try not to give her any meds during the day. One, so she can fight it and two, so I can tell whether she is getting better or not. She goes to bed at 8 and this concoction lasts until about 4 am with no coughing (exactly the 8 hours it says on cough syrup box, ironic.) I give her just the cough syrup, at 4 am I am not making tea and she is barely awake.
My kids take Mini Melts when they are really phlegmy, but they are 5 and 8. The thing about the mini melts is they taste great - as long as you don't chew them. It might work in applesauce, since that doesn't really get chewed, especially if your son has no/few teeth yet. I would check the age recommendations on them, though, since they are likely intended for older children and may not be dosed for such a small child.
My kiddos take it straight from a spoon and haven't complained - 18 months and 2.5.
I have given the mini melts to my daughter and she loved them. I don't remember exactly how old she was...probably closer to two and I just poured a little at a time in her mouth. (they melt immediately) I would imagine if you need to, you can mix it into food with no problem. Hope this helps.

Have you tried the Pediatric decongestant drops that go directly in the nose. Those work well. That and saline and that disgusting bulb syringe. I hated doing that to my boys. Steamy showers - i.e. you turn on the shower & read/play while the bathroom gets all steamy helped a lot too.
I've been there - good luck!
I've always put it into a spoonful of applesauce or yogurt or pudding. My son loves chocolate pudding.
My kids hate the taste of those mini-melts too! If all else fails, try it with a spoon full of chocolate syrup (recommended by my Ped as the best concealer of medicine!).
My kids REFUSE to open for the "sprinkles" as I called them. I have to give them the liquid and it goes down w/o a problem. I also put some big books under the head of the bed (the legs of the bed)to help keep their head elevated so the drainage doesn't clog up their head and they seem to sleep a little better. Won't work if yours moves all over still. You could always bribe with something. Good luck. Try tasting the mini melts they will make you gag too!
