I visited my pediatrician today and after viewing my daughters dimple above her bottom she recommended having an MRI done to make sure everything is okay with her spinal cord. I am scared but I know it is necessary. Has anyone else experienced this? If so how did it turn out.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Her doctor called yesterday (Yes the actual doctor called) and said Childrens Hospital didn't feel comfortable doing an MRI on such a young baby she would need to be a little older. The doctor said she was going to call and speak to pediatric neurology about the dimple. I did forget to tell the doctor that I have this condition (dimple) also with the shock of everything and from the research I have done it can be genetic and I have no real problems so I will mention it to the doctor when we go in next time. Thanks to everyone who wrote in and gave me encouraging info.

My little girl had several problems when she was born from her heart to her brain and one thing she had was a dimple on her bottom. She had an MRI done at 8 days old and the dimple turned out to be nothing. It was very easy for her, they gave her a little medicine in an IV and she went right to sleep and they did the procedure and when she was done I was right there to hold and love her. It'll be Ok, take it from a mom who has been through it all ( 2 open hear surgeries and 2 kidney surgeries). Its not easy on you but she'll make it through with flying colors. Good luck.

I have a dimple above my bottom...when I was born, the doctor said it could have been spina bifida (sp?) but that it had closed up on it's own...Her doctor is probably just making sure that her's closed up....or something...I'm sure she's fine. Don't fret....It's good that they're covering all the bases....

My daughter had an MRI done at 7 months because she wasn't on the growth charts. They gave her an anestitic and let me rock her to sleep in a dark room. Then they put her in the machine and gave me some ear plugs so I could sit in the room with her. It was a long session of loud beeps, but they they let me stay with her every minute, and I was right there snuggling her when she came out of the anestitic. Hers turned out normal and the experience was more tramatic for mommy than for her.
