Greetings fellow Moms! Can any of you provide advice for when I should move my 6 month old up to three meals a day? She has been on rice cereal (not loving any other flavors at this point) since 4 months and loves it! Many thx.

What can I do next?

We moved my daughter to 3 meals a day when she was nine months. Your child should also show interest in more solids too. Does she always eat the full servings at her other meal times? Does she reach for the food you serve her,etc...
Good Luck!

Mine didn't go to three meals a day until closer to 10 months. We started with cereal at night, then eventually went to cereal w/ a fruit in the morning & a veggie at night. After that, I added a veggie for lunch & a meat at dinner.

Have fun! :)

Don't rush it. Most "experts" agree that giving too many solid foods too early was a mistake. Of course, the baby needs nutrients, but I would consider 2 light meals a day.

What did you do for your older child?

I started feeding my daughter (now in her '30's) solids much too early (it was "the thing" then), and she developed colic and digestive problems.

Don't worry and don't push too much food too early!

Our pedi said 6 months is too early for 3 meals a day. At this stage they need more nutrients then baby food can provide. She said at 6 months the majority of their nutrition should still be coming from formula or breast milk. If you start giving her 3 meal too early then she'll start wanting LESS formula or breast milk which is not good. We received this same advice from 2 different pediatricians in two different states.

I agree with the Moms on this one. Don't rush it. I know it is more convienient to feed her meals instead of bottles all the time, but keep her with the formula or breast milk till she is atleast 13 moths old. I had my kids on Next Step when they hit 9 months old to 14 months old before I switched to regular milk and foods.

I gradually started adding a third meal in when my daughter was 6 months, per my pedi's suggestion. I did it slowly so she didn't get constipated. Good luck!
