Moving Toddler from Crib to Bed

My daughter is two and has been in her toddler bed for about 4 months now. I plan on moving her to a regular bed by the end of this year. My question is, is there still a concern with the width of slats on the rails at this age? I plan on purchasing her a daybed that has slats on the side, head and foot of the bed. They are a bit wider than a regular crib and I was concerned that it might pose a problem. She'll be closer to age 3 once we switch her over.

What can I do next?

Any kid can widdle themselves through a good size opening...the question becomes (hopefully their head doesn't fit through it) but can they get their arms/legs back through it on their own? My daughter used to get so frustrated with her crib she'd stick her arms and legs through it and then couldn't get them back out...

Another option that you could consider is getting the bed protectors (like the kinds that fit under the matress and prevent them from rolling out of the bed)...if you put it on both sides then it should protect her for the length. As for the short width ends...I wouldn't worry about them since you'll probably have a pillow there.

As long as her head cannot fit in them she should be ok. Also if your kid is a crazy sleeper like mine, she moves every minute, something you might think about is her getting her arms or legs stuck. We have slats on the back of our chairs in the kitchen and my little goober still managed to get her arm stuck in them. If the slats are on the back of the bed, I wouldnt worry but if they are on the sides she could get her arms and legs stuck. But wouldnt that be the same as the crib? They have slats on the sides! I dont know Im sure it will be ok! My nephew has slats on the side of his day bed and they havent had any problems.

I would say NO I dont think there would be concerns at the age of 3. As long as they arent wide enough where she would be able to get her head thru them, I would say its safe to get her a daybed. You can always find a daybed that dont have slats, I found one along time ago that is wooden. You can always check craigslist see if anyone is selling one.

I think it really depends on her size. My first two children were big so they had no problem. But I am facing a situation with my youngest right now. He was a preemie and is still pretty little. He is 2 1/2 and his toddler bed is a hand me down from his brothers and falling apart but he is body would fit through the rail on bed he will eventually move to. I would have you daughter lay in the new bed and make sure her body would fit though the slats.
