Can someone enlighten me about their school system? There is a rumor about budget cuts but I guess that is everywhere. Any input on their special education? My littlest human has Autism but she seems high functioning.

Also heard wonderful things about GR, MI Our special ed teacher told us that Autism support is up to 26 years.

Any personal; experiences

I have had experience with both Plano and Northwest ISD's special ed departments. Both are incredible. The entire staff at the school was supportive both encouraged and valued my input. Yes, there are going to be budget cuts throughout most TX schools -- but my kids are now in Northwest ISD, and they are making a real effort to make budget cuts in areas that are not student-related (busing, admin, etc.). I think that as long as a parent stays involved as their child's biggest advocate - the better the child's experience in the school's spec ed system.

There have been cuts here in plano, some of them have been in special ed departments. That being we had allot of extra support on those areas most seem to love our staff, but I am sure there have been issues with some. As far as I know we still have a great support. I would call the school districts and ask question that specifically relate to issue your son has. I have heard good things about Highland Village as well. good luck.

My son goes to the schools in Highland Village. I love them and they have been great for him and my 2 older kids. He has ADD and Dysgraphia and the schools have been supportive and helpful. He is just finishing up 6th grade. My daughter is at the High School and it is a great school as well. Flower Mound schools are equally as good from all that I hear from other Mom's. We moved from schools in the same district, different suburb (The Colony) and it was amazing to see the difference in quality even within the LISD district.

Stay away from Coppell School District is all I have to say. We lived in Tx when my little one transitioned from ECI to the spec ed department ... with in weeks we lost 6 months of work ... thought it was due to adjustment and that things would move forward again but it just kept moving back and they did not want to do anything to help, we left.
