B.A. asks from Oklahoma City, OK

We are moving to Tinker in Oct and would like to buy our own home and do not know what the local neighborhoods are like or the prices.
I also need to find a school for my 2 and 3 year old kids. By then they will be 4 and almost 3(by 1 month).
I'd also like to know if there are any people in the near by area that would like to do play dates.
I spent 7 years in Moore, OK so I know of alot of things to do in Oklahoma itself but now after 6 years of being away I have to see it from a different view as a wife and mom.

I work as a cross stitch model stitcher and also have my own group on-line internationally as well as in person. I no longer know anyone other then Family (which are lil to no help really) there and would like to try to get more information on the area around Tinker. It would also be nice to have the chance to get to know some other people in the area/ make some new friends before getting there too. I am also looking to see if anyone would be intrested in joining my cross stitch group. I love my meetings here with fellow stitchers and would love to be able to create a local group there. My group name is Cross Stitch Round Robins. We do lots of things including exchanges, talk about everything, and meet everyother week roughly. Not so sure on when we'd meet at TInker since I don't get there until Oct 07. But we are hoping to make it so we can get there sooner. THank you for any help in advance!

I myself live in Moore, have all my life, and I think they have the best of schools, and the only others I would trust at this time would be Del City, they are a lil higher on their learning standards then even Moore is. I'd say you could always move back to Moore, the homes here are going up like CRAZY along the Moore/Norman border, they are even FINALLY building a new high school and just built a brand new elementary school. The base you are living at now should help you and your husband locate a new place to stay between their information and the information they can give you through Tinker, part of that Family Seperationg stuff. It being not until October you could probably just look around on websites. As far as buying a house though, you should probably start looking in on that around now, since it takes forever these days to deal with closing and searching for the right house. Best of Luck.

Hey there! i dont' know much about ther are+a around TInker but my sister-in-law's husband (that would be my husbands sister) is in the air force, when they lived her they lived in mustang. They always said it was worth the extra drive her husband took to be in a better neighborhood with better schools (even though they didn't have any kids).
I would love to get together with a fellow cross stitcher. I love you cross stich but don't have alot of time to. i've been starting to get my 4yo started too. hope to talk to you soon.

We live in the Choctaw school district. We moved here for the schools. I believe that last year or before one of the schools got an award for being in the top. I do know that our daughter went to a private school until 2nd grade ( we lived in Midwest City - but was in OKC school system) anyway she was behind a little when we moved into the Choctaw School District.
I think that you can contact the Oklahoma Board of Education and they will give you the different rates on the school.
We love living in Choctaw, we live on two acres - so it is like the country but yet we are minutes to Tinker and Midwest City - they have really grown in the last couple of years ( shops restaurants etc)

I am an active duty (AF) mother of 3 and we live in South OKC. We have our boys (9 and 5) in Mid-Del Christian School (about 2 miles from the base). After sending my oldest son to a public elementary, by comparison, we wouldn't go back! This choice freed us up to find a home we really liked in a neighborhood we liked without being restricted to an area for the school district. You will find so many different opinions on the school districts, but you may not share the same opinion once you're child is enrolled there. I am biased to private schools because they seem to care more about the children individually and values and consistent discipline are part of daily lessons there. Hope this helped.

I don't want anyone to get offended, but I haven't heard great things about the MWC school district. I may be wrong, but I can only go on what I have heard. I am from Tuttle which is a small town. My father works at Tinker and drives about 45 minutes one way. To him it was always worth the drive. I am a teacher myself so I have done a little research on local schools. Yukon and Mustang are both good school districts. Choctaw, Harrah, Newcastle, Tuttle are good schools as well. The further east you go the cheaper the houses as well. Don't ask me why, but it is just like that. I am partial to the smaller districts. They seem to have more community spirit. I would look at more than test scores, however. I would look at community and parent involvement as well as the entire report card for the school. If you go to a search engine like yahoo or mamma, you can type in school report card and find Oklahoma. You will then be able to locate each district as well as each school in that district. I hope this helps.
