Moving to Katy or Sugar Land Texas

My husband and I currently live at Kirkwood & Briar Forest off of 1-10 (considered the Westchase area). We're contemplating moving to a more family friendly neighborhood. We're torn on whether or not to move to Katy vs. Sugar Land (commute time for us would be similar from both places). That being said, we don't exactly know where to look in these places - looking for recommendations or opinions on the best neighborhoods to start looking. Currently we have a 22 month old who attends daycare near my office at Bellaire & 610, though I'd love to get him into a Montessori school closer to where ever we end up living. We also have visiting stepchildren every other weekend, so I also would like to get into a nice home 4 bedrooms or more but not so much that it completely breaks the bank. So I am reaching out to this community for several reasons, recommendations on neighborhoods and school and als I really need a realtor that is motivated to help us sell a problematic townhome and buy a new home ... hopefully all within the next 12 months. Thanks to anyone who responds.

What can I do next?

I think you would be happy in either place. We moved back to this area about a year ago and were contemplating Katy and Sugarland/Missouri City. We ended up buying in Sienna Plantation in Missouri City. We love it here. We decided on this area because it is closer to my husband's work. It feels like a community, not just a neighborhood. But I'm sure there are great places in Katy, also. My brother lives in Katy and is very happy.

If you work at Bellaire and 610 I think Sienna would be an easier commute because of the Fort Bend Toll Road. My husband takes the Ft. Bend toll road to work everyday and never hits traffic.

Btw, there is a Montessori school right in Sienna Plantation. My friend has a child there and is very happy with the school.

I hope this helps!

Hello,
We used to live in the Westchase district for over 10 years before deciding to move to Sugar Land for a more family oriented environment. Also, for the schools. I live in First Colony area (Williams Trace & Hwy.6) It takes me approx. 15-20 minutes to get to the Galleria area or in town where I do a lot of my work. It all depends on your price point for a home to be in certain communities. Sienna Plantation is a great family oriented community however I couldn't live there because it adds an additional 15-20 minutes to my commutes (and husbands) commutes into town. This makes a big difference to us! There is Telfair which is right off Hwy. 59- a bit more pricey. Also, Riverstone right off Hwy. 6. You may want to start your searches on HAR.com (this is where most people weed thru various homes). I am a realtor and can give you my personal and professional opinion whenever you'd like. Good luck to you!

I love it in Katy. I have a child with autism and he goes to Jeanette Hayes Elementary. We could not have been luckier than to have moved into this school zone. Pick your school first before your house. It is so so so important. The attitude of the teachers at Hayes is pro children all the way. You need to go there to see it. Good luck. You would not regret it.
I am Australian and I am very happy here.

I have lived in Sugar Land for 17 years now and it is not what it used to be. The crime rate is up, the houses are way over-priced and the school district is in shambles! As soon as my daughter graduates from high school, I will be leaving the area. I would look more into the Katy area if I were you.

We live in Sienna Plantation, which is technically in Missouri City, but is just down Hwy. 6 from Sugar Land (next town over). We are located right near the entrance to the Ft. Bend Tollroad at Hwy 6, so the traffic isn't quite as bad as some of the other major roads like Hwy 59. Sienna Plantation is a master planned community with tons of amenities like 3 community pools (two are resort style with slides, rock climbing walls and diving boards), tennis courts, parks/playgrounds all over the place and they do lots of community events like concerts and movies in the summer, a visit by the Easter bunny in the srping and a "snow day" where they make snow for the kids to play in during the winter. It is such a great place to live and raise kids. The public schools here are excellent and there is a Montessori school right here in the neighborhood (along with several other preschools/daycares).

Anyway, here is the link for the neighborhood. It is a pretty large community offering homes in all different price ranges, so you're sure to find something that works for your family. FYI...I don't work for them or anything....we just love living here! LOL! Happy house hunting! http://www.siennaplantation.com/
