Moving to Dallas

Hi....have you moved? I had my daughter in in-home day care for the 2 months that I worked and it was $120/week. I know that if you go with a larger day care (like Creme de la Creme or Carpe Diem), the cost will sky rocket. But those places certainly have a ton to offer! Good luck!

I have no idea what childcare cost is like in my area, sorry. I just wanted to say welcome. I am also a native Californian. What area are you from? I'm from Southern CA, specifically Orange County.

I hope you like it here, we do...but we miss the ocean breezes and the view of the mountains on a clear (non smoggy) day.

You can look to spend about $125 each if you put them in daycare.

It really depends on where you go the cheaper end of 200 per for the baby and about 150 for the older at a day care. If it's rather cheap it's not very clean.
I personally prefer an inhome day care, which I personally am trying to do at home. I am a Single SAHM of 2 boys(11 months and 15 yrs) I have over 20 yrs of experience from newborns to teenagers and I am CPR/First Aid certified. What hours would you be needing. I am currently going to school in the evenings for nursing. My passions are working w/children and making a difference in life.

Hi, welcome to Texas! I moved from Sonoma County a while back. It looks like you got a some good feed back regarding prices. Frankly, I've never researched the cost of a nanny but lately I've been comparing costs for private schools. Thoes prices can range from $1300 - $3000 a year for pre-k depending on what kind of program you choose. If you are looking at a center based day care here is a link for you:

We live about 35 miles north of Dallas, but I have friends who have "shopped" childcare in and around Dallas and it ranges $650 to about $850, with the higher end being private centers or something like Montessori.

It depends on whether you use a nanny or take the kids to an actual day care (home or center). For an at home care facility, you'll be looking at about $600/mo per child. A center would be more in line with about $650-$800/mo per child depending on the place. As far as nannies, when I looked into that, it was about $1200/mo for live in and more expensive for live out. Depending on how old your child is, I think the child care cost is reasonable. Probably a lot lower than the West Coast. My son is 4 and the tuition averages $150/week in the Allen/Plano/Richardson areas. Welcome to Texas!

Welcome! There are several options for childcare around here(In-home, Preschool, Daycare, Montissori). There is a site called aroundtownkids.com. They have a list of several schools. The prices for your 3 year old would probably run between $160-210 a week, and for your 7 month old $175-220 a week.

I have not had experience with nannies, so I can not help you there. I will say that with childcare in this area, you really do get what you pay for. For a nice, reputable childcare facility, you could expect to pay $180-$200 per week, per child. I would recommend that you look into Primrose Schools, especially for your 3 year old. It has one of the best preschool curriculums in the area and the teachers are superb. The infant care proogram is also very good. Visit www.primroseschools.com for a location nearest you. i too moved from ca to dallas and was pleasantly surprised by the huge differences in costs of living. the workforce for childcare is very similar to ca with a lot of hispanic caregivers. we have a live out nanny about 30 hours per week and pay her $10.50/hour. most of my friends pay in the same range of about 9-12/hour for live out nanny with wonderful references. i can't comment on other forms of childcare as we haven't used them. good luck and welcome!!

Whereabouts in the Dallas area are you moving? I live in Plano and for my 3 year old I pay $20/day for drop-in care (I think otherwise it'd be ~$80-100/week) and for your infant, I would expect to pay $150-200/week.

I have seen several requests for babysitters, I'm a single mother and gave up a social life years ago. I work Sun-Tue and every other Wed. if someone needs childcare to work, go out, or if you need sick care on Wed,Thurs,Fri,Sat I'd be willing to help someone out. I live in Plano and my daughter's almost 4. Will not charge an arm and a leg, I know what it's like to just need some help. (and my daughter wouldn't mind the playmates!)

My husband and I were looking at options for care for our 7 mo old son and we found the following:

Daycare with 4:1 ratio (children to caregivers) around 700-800/month

Daycare with 3:1 ratio around $1200/month

Live out Nanny 300-500/week depending on experience, if you have them do cleaning as well, and their citzenship status.

I moved here from California as well. Graduated high school in San Jose. My friend's son is in daycare and I believe it's around $200/week where he goes (and in general, from what she told me). Nannies, of course, cost about twice as much, depending. I've been a nanny most of my life. I love Texas, but if you need to speak to previous Californians, you can talk to me and/or my neighbor has been here for 4 years from Sunnyvale and is still reeling from the change.

Welcome to Texas! Childcare costs will depend on type of care. I am from Los Angeles, and can tell you that childcare isn't THAT much cheaper here - home-based care seems to be slightly more expensive here than what I knew in LA - center-based daycare is cheaper - nannies are a lot cheaper - at least for legal ones. I know in LA nannies could come really cheap if they were illegals - to my knowledge, that's not common here, but the cost of living is still so much cheaper that nannies are simply cheaper.

It will depend on type of care and area you're in. I pay $175 a week for a 2 year old 5 days a week at a center-based daycare. There are a lot of chain daycares out here, so those prices seem to stay competitive with each other.

D., For an infant it will be around $220-$235 a week. A three or four year old will be around $158-$165. This is what most of the schools in Plano charge, give or take a few. A great center to check out is Childtime in Plano on Hedgcoxe. They have a great long term staff and very clean. Their baby room is the best!
