Hello mamas! My husband and I are relocating to Austin next spring with our 3 yr old daughter and 11 month old twins...have SO many questions for you all! We are thinking about the Arboretum area but I am open to any other feedback you all have about that!
1. In your opinion which neighborhood has the best public schools, parks, etc.?
2. If all goes well, I will be getting a job in Austin so do you have any suggestions for daycare/preschool?
3. Any family docs/pediatricians that you can recommend?
I know it's alot but I would like to be armed with lots of information to make the best decision for our little ones! Thanks so much for any suggestions they are SO appreciated!
Alex
Thanks so much!
Alex

we live in north austin and work at ut which is central. we like our ped.--anna bell. she is one of the few ped. in the central austin area that still accepts blue cross blue shield insurance. she is very kind, thorough and good with our infant son.

not sure about ped. or daycare near the arboretum area.

We love Southwest Austin. We're north of Circle C. Heard of good ratings for the elementary schools (Patton, Kiker etc)and there's a new middle school nearby, but we home school, and feel we also have a good community of home schoolers. Our church has a great day care (not just for members): Bethany Lutheran Preschool. Lots of parks to choose from, and have enjoyed Bee Caves Pediatrics for docs. Love New Mexico (miss it!) and enjoy living in Texas (even though the temperture soared this summer!) Welcome!

This opens up a whole can of worms, Everyone for the most part likes where they bought. We are in N.W. round Rock and like it very much. Husband gets to downtown on 40 to 45 min in traffic. Also like Avery Ranch Area.

The previous moms have suggested great areas with excellent schools. Each part of town has its own vibe. If you have a really good Realtor they can help you find,, "your people", ha! The Arboretum area is very good. It is just north of what is now considered the "New Center of Austin", which is Northcross Mall on Anderson Lane and Burnet Road.

The Arboretum area feeds in to excellent public schools. Hill Elementary, Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School. All 3 of these schools have extremely active PTA's so you will be encouraged to be very involved. www.austinisd.org

You will be close to neighborhood parks. There are lots of churches, grocery stores, there is even a hospital over there.

Our daughter attended Stepping Stone Day Care. Many of them are Nationally recognized. The owner is very highly regarded all around the state and the Nation. Our daughter was completely prepared for kindergarten and they also offered information nights for parents. They offer all sorts of extras. Swimming lessons, evaluations, field trips, we loved it. We became very close to the other parents and children in her group.

My niece and nephew attended Elssas day care. They are part of the Crenshaw gymnastic Gym. They are also excellent.

Our daughter is now 19 so I cannot really recommend a pedi, but there are tons of great Doctors in Austin and of course we are so fortunate to have the state of the art Dell Children's hospital which is only about 15 minutes from that area of town.
