I live in BV and work for BV schools. I also worked in Shawnee Mission schools before. I personally think a BV education is one of the best, if not the best public school educations you can get anywhere.
I would pick an area you like and a pricepoint and go from there. You can move to BV for 200K or 2 million, so you have to start with budget then start exploring! You might have more luck here if you narrow it down to areas.

Well this probably won't help much, but drive around areas you like and observe. Do you see toys? bikes? scooters? kids playing? Are kids of different ages playing together? Do you see an adult supervising?

When we were house hunting years ago now, it came down to 2 houses. One in Western Shawnee and the one we're in. I happened to notice when we were leaving the one in Shawnee on a beautiful day, that there didn't seem to be any kids. We drove straight out here to River Ridge and saw the play sets in the back yard and some toys in the front yard.
Our kids were 7 and 11 at the time we moved in 2001 and it was a GREAT family friendly move. Of course things like this go in cycles so most of the kids in the 'hood now are older on our side. But on the other side of the neighborhood there are a ton of little kids.

We had already decided to put our kids in a private school when we were house hunting. When we ended up in the BV district we said we'd give it at least a year. The private school ended up being the best bet for us and we've stayed there. BUT my kids were never 'the kids who go to a private school' and not included as many of my friends kids in other neighborhoods. We've been a very involved neighborhood family who just made a different choice about schools.

the blue valley area is pretty expensive and not very many young couple friendly neighborhoods, unfortunately. I grew up there. spent most of my life in their schools districts. i moved my kids up to the shawnee mission district. I hated the richie attitude and smugness. the farther north you get the easier it will be to find a more young family friendly neighborhood. If you check out the reece and nichols website (dont worry, im not a realtor, i just remember using it a lot) you can do a search by school district! from there, i would do what was previous said and drive through the neighborhood before viewing a house and see if you see play sets near by, toys outside, the stick figure stickers on vans, etc.

We live in the BV District. We live in a subdivison with acerage sp? Wish we would have done a better job checking on the kid situation - not too many here my kids ages. My high schooler goes to BV West, and he has a lot of friends that live in Wilshire Farms, off 159th & Antioch, very nice homes. There are also lots of kids in Mills Farms. Also if you did not know there are subdivisions in Olathe off 143rd & Pflumm where they go to BV schools too, he has friends over that way and I always see kids everywhere there. As a side note, I know you asked for great schools. We came here from Olathe, and I had a hard time, still are. BV is one year ahead of Olathe academically. So catching up is hard, seems like the kids are always behind still, after 2 years. My oldest used to go to BV Southwest, the new school, but was not happy there. So he transferred to be with more friends. You don't say how old your kids are, so not sure which route to take!! My youngest went to Morse, and I did not like it at all. I kept getting phone calls everyday, asking me stupid questions about what should they do etc etc (my son has a peanut allergy, hence all the ???'s) it was just a pain, nothing like I was used to in Olathe. But all in all, we made a good move, it is just that it takes getting used to, even after all this time. Hope I helped!!
