So we are moving to another home in our town. The problem? Well we will have three weeks in the in between. So we may stay at my moms but the problem is do we get a pod for our stuff? We already filled a storage locker before we had our house on the market. Anyone else dealt with this? My son has horrible allergies and both our parents have animals. We have a dog but our son is used to him. So many decisions and so overwhelmed.

What can I do next?

We built a house. Closed on our first house what we THOUGHT was 3 weeks before new house was done (tried to stretch it out as long as we could). We rented an apartment, put pretty much EVERYTHING in storage (A nightmare living in a two bedroom apartment with three kids and a dog and no stuff).

Three weeks turned into a month. A month turned into SIX MONTHS! ACK!

Maybe call a realtor and ask about REALLY short term rentals? They are out there.

Good Luck, I don't envy you!

I called an apartment manager and said "We have excellent credit, but need a monthly lease because we don't know when our house will close and the new one will be done." She did it for us, but told others no.????

assuming you are selling your current house, can you rent from the new owners? My sister did that once when she was between houses like that. Maybe it could work.

I don't know your circumstance, but when we moved into our new home we asked the people who just bought our home if we could rent from them for a few days until our new home was available. This worked out for us b/c the buyers of our home didn't have a time committment on their end, plus they were a young couple who appreciated the extra cash.

Otherwise, can you call an apartment complex to see if they would be willing to do such a short term rental?

Also, try checking on line - maybe Craigs List or something - some people go away on extended vacations and are willing to rent their homes/apartments for short terms while they are away.

Good luck. This transition can be so hard!

We had a similar situation a couple years ago, but we were between houses for only 10 or 11 days. We used Pack Rat (www.1800packrat.com), they are similar to PODS but less expensive. We were very happy with their service, they delivered one unit to our driveway, we filled it, so they delivered another one and picked up the full one. When we moved in they brought both units to the house, then picked them up when we called to say we were done unloading them. I think storage fees are monthly, so we paid for a full month, but still very reasonable. I thought it was way better than loading a moving van and taking it to a storage unit, then when the house was ready reloading the moving van, only to re-unload it at the house, that is a lot of time and work! Since we live nowhere near family we stayed with a very gracious friend (we were a family of 5 plus a dog!) for that week and a half. I took my fish and plants to another friend's house. It was a stressful, trying time; but worth it in the end. Best of luck to you.
