hey moms, my son is 4 1/2 and is in love with super heros. he loves spiderman (even though he has never seen the movies), star wars, superman, etc. his favorite right now is transformers - we watch the old cartoons on the Hub. the new transformers cartoon is too scary for him, and we do let him watch the transformers movies but with supervision (and distraction at the right moments because there are some pretty violent parts). but he LOOOOVES them. last night we tried a new one - Fantastic 4 Silver Surfer (or whatever the name is lol) i actually really liked it - very low violence. only 1 person got "killed" that i saw, and i saw it coming so he didn't see it. i was impressed with the movie as a kids/family movie. i remember liking the first one too but it was pre-kids so you never watch it looking for the same things, so i'm not sure about it.
he loves these movies with lots of action (some movies, it takes an hour into the movie before the "superhero" emerges, he will have none of that, that's why the sequel was so good last night, the superheros were right out in front from the very beginning) but i hesitate to watch most with him because i KNOW that movies like Batman (and if i remember right, spiderman?) are pretty dark and violent.
i wish i had time to preview all these movies for him, but i just don't. so...
what are some kid/family friendly movies with LOTS of action and fun stuff for little ones? my main criteria are like i said: low violence/gore, and exciting from the beginning. thanks ladies for your help - it sure was easier when it was Nemo and Wall-E all the time! :) we are expanding our horizons...lol.
(just to "TRY" to ward off the blasting that seems to come with EVERY question asked on this site- we are not talking "all the time" tv/movie watching - last night was movie night at our house beacuse it was cold and nasty outside. after a long winter, we are getting bored - okay, dad and i are getting bored - of watching the same ones.)
Everyone keeps mentioning star wars, so i thought i would add - yes, we watch them (almost always it's the old ones because i just don't like the new ones as well lol - although he does like them as well) he likes star wars almost as much as transformers! i do cringe a little when he's watching them too, to me they seem kind of violent for a 4 year old, but it's done now and he loves them. i was a little embarrassed to admit he watches those lol. thanks for bringing them up though, at least i know i'm not a crazy person for letting my 4 year old watch them!

Has he seen the star wars movies? With the exception of Revenge of the Sith they are good for his age. There also is a show called "The Avengers : earth's mightiest heroes" on Disney XD. It has Iron Man, Hulk, Thor , Wasp, Ant man etc , your main Marvel super heroes. The first fantastic 4 movie is prob ok.
Oh also "Young Justice" it's a show about the kid sidekicks of DC superheroes ( batman, superman, green arrow, etc) . The sidekicks are super boy, robin, aqua lad. It's on Cartoon Network. Also for Star Wars , Clone wars is a good series also on cartoon network.
The Night at the Museum series is good.
I wouldn't let my 6 yr old watch the new transformers movies and he watches harry potter 1-4, no higher though starts getting really scarry. um
No to Batman the dark night especially . Oh what about Tron? Both Movies are good for little boys.

My kids 5 & 3 like spectacular spider and ironman. Both are cartoons on netflix. I feel like spectacular spiderman has more high school themes (dating) but not enough for me to outright ban it. I know it feels like walking a fine line between violence and action. They also love avatar: the last airbender. My husband loves this one too :P Oh, and Wild Kratts. Hope this helps.

I agree with the orginal Superman movies. I loved those movies when I was a kid.
What about Iron man? My son LOVES them ... oh and have you seen Dispicable me ... my 4yr old LOVES that movie, same with Meet the Robinsons and Cars. My kiddo loves transformers and the other movies along the same line ... what about The Hulk (ed norton version) it has an adult scene but you can buffer that too. Try Netflix as well they have a great variety of movies to choose from with decent suggestions based on your rating of movies. Oh and you could try the classic ET.
My son is 7, and he likes all kinds of movies, not just high action, so these might not fit your criteria, but he is a boy, so I thought I would respond anyway. Happy watching!

I tried to keep Star Wars from my oldest but my hubby let him watch it at 7. When the next boy came he was watching it in his diapers. He is now 10 and still in love with the whole series. Hubby started with the first three that came out in the 70's.
He loves Narnia and Lord of the Rings, maybe too old for your little guy though. Wait a couple of years
We have still not rented Batman, Spiderman, or any of the super shock and awe movies.
We have a family movie night about once every two weeks or so...
We watch the cartoon Super Hero Squad on DVD. (We don't do this for family night, but it's a cartoon to break up the monotony a bit. It's got Iron Man, Hulk and lots of others in it. It's more silly than the super hero movies. My son loves it.
The 1980s Superman (with Christopher Reeve) was a fun one to watch with our kiddo.
And the Tim Burton Batman wasn't too bad. But depending on your child, the Joker may scare him a little.
We also had a great time watching Goonies as a family. There is some mild language and we fast forwarded through the scene where they broke the statue(we didn't want to have to explain some of the comments there) and we fibbed when we read what Mouth told the house keeper.
My son is in tball and loved the Sandlot, but it does have a slower beginning, we had to convince him to stick with it a bit. In the end he wanted to watch it again. (Do NOT watch the original Bad News Bear, lots of racial references, glad we screened that one first).
We also like the Scooby Doo Live action movies.
E.T. (for Halloween) but we warned him ahead of time that E.T. gets really sick and he does NOT die. We had to tell him during the movie too.
We haven't watched them yet, but The Neverending Story and Labyrinth are also on our list.
My son is 3 and loves the movie "Bolt". He loves his Toy Story movies, along with Homeward Bound, Ponyo, Finding Nemo, Fox and the hound, The Grinch, Tom & Jerry. He likes his superheros but loves other ones too. I hope this helps. Good Luck

My 4 year old ( now 5) loves ET! He also likes the Jurassic Park movies that he saw last summer at age 4. They scared him a bit, but it was the type of "scare" he enjoys since he realized it wasn't real. I think we're going to look into some Star Trek movies next and Indiana Jones.
I have to add that ET with my then 4 year old was especially touching because it was the first time I saw him cry from a movie or story and not just from pain or a want. He was so funny about it, but it was wonderful to see that empathy and emotion from him!
Cars is a huge hit with my kids! They're making a Cars 2 coming out this summer.
Sky High is a good one, it's got some boring parts for a 4 year old, but it's a high school for super hero kids.
If he hasnt seen the Incredibles, he really should. And there's no reason to be ashamed of having him see Star Wars. My 4 year old (girl) loves the original 3, we wont let her watch the new ones. She even made a pink Darth Vader bear at Build a Bear. :-)
I S. the Narnia, my daughter likes them. They arent super heros, but they're still pretty good.
We've been watching a lot of the old Doctor Who episodes on Netflix lately and my daughter likes them alot. Even the old, black and white ones I thought she'd be bored by. They have a new kids/teens show The Sarah Jane Adventures, which focuses on Sarah Jane Smith, her teenage son and a friend and neighbor fighting alien threats in the Doctor Who universe. My daughter likes them alot. She likes things the scarier, the better, though, so she may not be a perfect gauge. :-)

I know not all of these are *action* movies, but they're pretty great family movies all around.
My son is 5. He still loves Cars (and Mater's Tall Tales) and we cannot wait for Cars 2 this summer! Still loves all the Toy Story movies. He loves watching any of the Lego DVD's. My 3 yo daughter just got Tangled and he likes watching it with her. He is starting to like the Transformers movies but his thing with feature-length movies is that they're just too long, and frankly I don't really want him sitting in front of the TV for 90 minutes at a stretch. He also loves to watch DVD's like Dirt Monsters, Fire Monsters, Mighty Machines . . .
My son just got back from Thor (yes it is PG 13, but other than one scene in beginning when a child is harmed, it is not bad) he declared it "super awesome"
