Ok ladies, my Netflix queue is empty. I need some good movie recommendations. What's the best movies you've seen recently?

The best things I've seen lately are TV shows. I've been on a bit of a TV binge this past year (via netflix). Here's my "loved it!" & "liked it a lot!" list (* means it hasn't been cancelled yet / is still being filmed or showed):
24
Band of Brothers
Battlestar Galactica
* Big Love
* Bones
* Burn Notice
* Castle
* CSI : Vegas, NY
* Doctor Who (new)
Dollhouse
* Eureka
Firefly
Gillmore Girls
* House
* Human Target
Jericho
* Law & Order UK
* Lie To Me
Lost
Numb3rs
Rome
* Secret Diary of a Call Girl
Spooks (MI-5)
Sports Night
Standoff
Terminator: S. Connor Chronicles
* True Blood
Tudors
West Wing
Whitechapel
I recently saw Grown ups--that was funny.
A couple of my all time faves:
New in Town
13 going on 30
In her Shoes
The Proposal
I always like Friends reruns.
I'm not sure how Netflix works exactly or what movies you can choose from.
My son recently recommended "The Guardian" with Kevin Costner and I really liked it.
We love "Corrina, Corrina" with Whoopi Goldberg and Ray Liotta. Great story. Great soundtrack.
"Falling Down" with Michael Douglas. Men like this one too. Amazon gives it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
"The Apostle" with Robert Duvall. (Farrah Fawcett, June Carter Cash, Billy Bob Thornton).
"Radio" Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding, Jr.
"Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?"
"Fried Green Tomatoes"
"Thelma and Louise"
"Mrs. Doubtfire"
"Pride and Prejudice"
We love a lot of the oldies:
"The Long, Long Trailer" with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
"Yours, Mine and Ours" with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda.
"Pillow Talk" with Doris Day and Rock Hudson.
"Beyond the Pale", Jim Gaffigan. He is a comedian and hilarious, not dirty. It's not a "movie", it's a stand-up special. We laugh every single time we see it.
I see another mom suggested Masterpiece Theatre and I have to second that suggestion if you can get it on Netflix. I was trying to think just last night of something I'd seen on there that was excellent and I'd like to see again. I told my son about it. Anything Masterpiece Theatre is great in my opinion.
Thinking about all this makes me want to find a movie and get some popcorn and snuggle up for a bit. It's dark and rainy here. Perfect day for it.
I'm sure you'll get some great suggestions. Some of mine aren't appropriate for little ones, but I like them none the less.
Have fun!
The Kids are Alright
Whip It
The Girl W/the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl Who Played with Fire
Date Night was pretty funny
Letters to Juliette. Great chick-flick. One of my favs.
Grown Ups. Previews looked kinda eh to me but it was really funny.
Date Night. Overall decent.
Fools Rush In. My all time fav chick flick.
Sideways. It came out 7 or 8 years ago, but we got it on Netflix recently, and at one point I was laughing so hard that my husband sat up and turned on the lamp to watch me. He enjoyed the movie too, not just my laughing to tears.
If you just want a laugh you could try Forgetting S. Marshall or Couples Retreat. For classic romance try Pride and Prejudice (the newest one). Eat, Pray, Love is coming out soon I think, and that was a nice movie and even better book. The movie Once is old but it is one not many people have seen and it is one of my all time favs. Enjoy!
Just saw "The Notebook" last night. I enjoyed it.
Order the series "The United States of Tara", it's pretty entertaining.
I don't know if you like 48 hours-Mystery type of shows, but there's an independent film called "Dear Zachary" that had me on the edge of my seat and bawling my eyes out. It was an awesome awesome wonderful film. It's available for queue or for instant view.
Plus I love watching all the old re-runs of tv shows. Right now I'm watching "My name is Earl" and "Say Yes to the Dress"!
Letters to Juliet - cute, not great
Hot Tub Time Machine - funny and it has John Cusak in it (my fave)
An Education - very good!
Precious - tough subject matter but very good
500 Days of Summer - very good if you like quirky and offbeat
Couples Retreat - very funny
She's Out of My League - very funny, not just for guys
The Informant! - very interesting
Hope this helps.
Date Night was hilarious and had both hubby and I in stitches.
"Gran Torino" was really good. And "Whip It" was cute.
Have you tried the new Sherlock Holmes? - Not the new movie, but the 3 part series that was done by the BBC and on Master Piece theater last month. They were awesome! I think each one is about an hour long and I liked them a lot better then the movie- and I really enjoyed the movie.
Head over Heals was one my husband and I also watched recently- it's been out for a while, but it's hilarious! If you like some fun kung-fu movies- Shaulin Soccer(not sure if I spelled that right) and Kung-Fu Hussle are a lot of fun to watch. I also enjoy any Bruce Willis action movie and A Long Kiss Goodnight- is another great action movie.
That's all I can think of right now!
enjoy!
