Moveable Lump

My 9 yr old daughter had me feel a lump on her right breast that moves around. She said it doesn't hurt her or anything and she just noticed it. I immediatly searched on line and read that most lumps in young females are benign but can't help but think if I should just take her and have it checked out.

Has any one dealt with anything like this? Just would like to know overall if I'm worrying for nothing. BTW, my husband has similar type feeling lumps he gets in his arms or rib cage areas and the doctor told him they were lipoma "fatty skin lumps under the skin". Could this be it? Advice??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to those with nonjudgmental advice. Very much appreciated your comments and suggestions. I took her to the Dr. and they said it was benign. She's growing up! (Suz T....Seriously? Completely uncalled for!)

I second the taking her to the doctor. This happened with my son and it was nothing, just normal hormonal changes. It's happened twice to him, the first time he was around 10.

My advice is to take her to the doctor so you don't have to worry. It's extremely unlikely it's anything, but you will worry until someone with the proper qualifications reassures you that it's nothing.

At 9 I'm inclined to say they are breast buds (the very beginnings of breast development) if she hasn't started noticeably developing. That's about the age to start getting them. That's about when I did.
Take her in to be on the safe side. Stop searching Dr. Google. All you get there is worse case scenario.

It could be a lipoma, a cyst, the breast bud or even a lymph node. The fact that it is moveable should be very reassuring!! My daughter has a ganglion cyst in her hand, my other one has a chronically enlarged lymph node on the neck and I have a lipoma on the collarbone... All are very movable and almost squishy under the skin. I agree with others- don't google, that will just freak you out!! Mention it to her pediatrician but sounds like something very benign!

i sure don't want to be mean, but this makes me clutch my head. how does any reasonably sensible parent encounter a situation like this and NOT get it checked out?
not freak out. not panic. not have a cow.
just call the doctor's office.

ETA: You took her to the doctor and they got the results that fast?? Wow..

G.,

I'm sorry - why would you NOT take her to the doctor??

There's a lump. It's NOT normal. She needs to be examined...there's a chance it is benign and there's a chance it's not. This is your daughter's HEALTH we are talking about...

Not some runny nose...
Not a rash...
A LUMP...
GO TO THE DOCTOR.

If I knew that about my child, I would be at a Dr office to check it out stat!! Due to her age, I appreciate a female Dr or your pedi but please.... Check it out with a professional.

I second IamA.Kat that they do sound like the beginning of breast buds., depending on her level of development. (When I first read it, I was thinking about my personal development and that came to mind.)

To be safe, I am with everyone else in that you should take her to the Dr. (Giving a developing girl some modesty, I would try and make it a female Dr.)

Also, leave google alone! All that it will due is cause undue stress and anxiety over the long weekend. Have a nice weekend and tackle this on Monday, or Tuesday (depending on what is open in your area), when you can actually do something.

It does sound like the breast buds starting to develop. But do take her in to get a look at. Your doctor is the best advice not the net.

She is nine years old and that is about the time I started mine. There is a funny sliding sensation and these things move all around and feel like little bubbles.

Better safe than sorry.
