I have a question. My 18 month old daughter has recently been grabbing the side of her face and crying she has all her teeth in so she isn't teething. Has anyone ever experienced this with their child. This morning whenever she tries to eat she is taking crying and taking the food out of her mouth. I don't know if I should take her to her ped or try to find a dentist to see her.

What can I do next?

Have you givin her motrin or teething tablets, all though you think she has all of her teeth doesn't mean she isn't getting more. I have a friend who's child got two sets of baby teeth.Or can you see anything in her mouth. My son did the same thing. He had a few small canker sores in his mouth down around the bottom of his gum line. I used some canker sore medicine. it was all better. check that first.

Does she have any small rashlike blisters on her hands or feet? She could possibly have hand foot and mouth disease. It causes canker sores in the mouth. Even though it is painful for the duration, it will go away without treatment and should not cause any lasting effects. It is also highly contageous in small children.

I agree with you that this does not sound like a teething problem. New teeth hurt but they usually are not so painful that they cause this kind of reaction. I would check for mouth sores that are treatable and possibly take her to the doctor if it doesn't clear up quickly. If you can get her to rinse her mouth with some salt water, this is the best cure for a lot of mouth sores but it doesn't taste very good and it is best if you don't swollow it so it might not be such a good idea for one so little. Just a thought.

I would call the doctors office. They can give advice on what to look for and what action to take. You said she has all her teeth. Did she teeth early. May she is getting her two year molars! My son and first daughter got their teeth early. I was lucky I didn't even know that they had their two year molars until they were already two and the teeth were complete in. You might want to take a look and see if there is any teeth popping up in very back. If she has eight on top and bottom then her two year molars are next!
Good luck and God Bless
