Motion Sickness in Preschooler

My almost 4 year old seems to be developing motion sickness, which I had as a child also. I remember taking Dramamine but it would knock me out -- not appropriate for our car trips, which are usually limited to around an hour. And of course I can't put him in the front yet! I know there are various remedies out there but I'd like to hear from moms who have something to recommend.

What can I do next?

My 4 year old has had this issue for a few years -and I did/do too. We basically make sure he has a plastic bag he can reach in case he needs to vomit and he has an air vent above his head, so we blow cool air on him. I know it does help for me to be quiet and put my head back with my eyes closed. He also cracks his window frequently to let fresh air blow on him. We do use Dramamine for any trip over an hour.

Our 4 year-old has suffered from motion sickness since about 2. It has made any trip longer than 30 minutes a nightmare. That being said we have our sickness kit in the car. Took an old towel and cut slits in it to fit in the car seat. We do the dramamine pills - but we cut them into quarters (doctor told us to try that). She doesn't get drowsy and there wasn't one motion sickness incident on our nine hour trip to california! My best to you and your little one - that's really rough.

My daughter was like that at that age, ugh... The pediatrician said make sure she sits in the center seat and the second she says her tummy hurts, open the windows and let her breathe in the fresh air. I would also keep plastic 'barf bags' right next to her seat where she could grab them in a pinch. Also, do you give your little one vitamins? If I gave my daughter her vitamin in the morning or at lunch, she would puke every time she got in the car. Try giving the vitamin just before or after dinnertime (when you're less likely to go anywhere afterwards)... hope fully your sweetie will outgrow this!!
