Hi M.,
I have a college sophmore (19) and a 17 year old junior in high school. The 17 year old is driving me crazy with his girlfriend. He is her whole world which is frightening! My 19 year old is wonderful and I LOVE her boyfriend. Most probably because I rarely see him!!LOL

Hello everyone.

I have a 17 year old son with a mild case of CP and learning disabilities in the public school system, a HORMONAL 13 year old daughter, (oh the joy)who is currently having social issues and very withdrawn because she feels she does not fit in anywhere, and I have a 5 year old girl who thinks she is 20 who keeps us on our toes. With all 3 so spread out its like a never ending circus at our house. I joined because I could use all the advise I can get right now, plus with the experience that I have I may be able to shed some light on the other moms as well.

Hi M.! You are definitely not alone. I have 4 children, 3 I gave birth to and 1 step child. My children are 19b (turns 20 next month), 18g, 18g(step) and 4g. We also have the yours, mine and ours situation. Being a parent is difficult but being a step-parent is one of the hardest jobs there is! It has taken us years to successfully blend our two families. There have been many tears shed along the way but now after 10 years we have a fairly calm home life. As calm as can be with teenagers!

I would love to chat with all of you about being a step mom/mom and things I might be facing soon. I do have some questions about respect and the role you play as a step mom. I would like to share some things with you and listen to your advice.

I am 26yrs old single mother I am a mortgage loan officer. I love my family (just a little stressed right now). I love going places with them and doing constructive things with them.

Hi M.,
We are out there. I was wondering the same thing? Where are all the older parents?

I have a 19 year old boy and a 17 year old girl. My son turned 19 in December and my daughter turns 18 in June. I have a step daughter who is in her 30's.

I thought for a while that I would never be friends as well as a parent with my kids but now that my son is a sophomore in college and my daughter is a senior in high school, I can see that all my rules and lectures paid off. Both kids are wonderful students and people. A friend once told me that you may think they don't aren't listening, but they are. My kids are proof of that. Hang in there.

A little about me:

I've been married 25 years. My husband was married very young the first time around. I married him at 24 and he was 27 so I've had my step daughter since she was 11. I work full time and I'm a full time mom. My husband and I come from very different homes, his an alcoholic home and mine tea totalers. Mine strict, his very loose. That was a struggle in and of itself, then add kids to the picture. Wow.

Hi M.,
I know what you mean! It seems most of the questions are for new moms and for me that was soooo long ago. I loved it then, but don't miss it! :o)
I have 3 of my 5 left at home. They are 17b, 14g & 11b and they will all have birthdays later this year. I have a 23b & 21b (now married w/ twin 15 yr old stepdaughters!)
My youngest boy has Asperger's Syndrome and is a fabulous artist.
My daughter is classified as emotional disabled and we live on a roller coaster dealing with her Bi-polar issues.
My 17 yr son is a whiz kid and is actively seeking colleges to attend after next year.
My 2 out of the nest are 23 yr old son and 21 yr old son (who is now married with 15 yr old twin step daughters!)

I was beginning to think the same thing. I am a mother of two teens 15G, 15B, and a 7 year old. Our family is also blended we have been married nine years but I just recently have my step daughter full time. It has been a bit rough at times, I think if I had had her at a young age things might be different. We live in Vienna, my husband is in the Air force and stationed at the Pentagon and I am an interior decorator, moving as often as we do is hard on my business so as we just moved here in January I have not really started anything. Hope this makes you feel like you are not alone on the news letter!

Hey M.,

I have an almost 18 (in 4mnths 24 days) year old daughter and a step son that is 24 with 2 kids of his own. Teenagers are an interesting group of folks. It doesn't really matter how many teenagers you actually gave birth to, you really have many more because you have the friends of your teen. Complicated but not totally bad.

Hi M.!

I have two teens - a 16 yr old boy and a 13 yr old girl. I joined the site because I have a 4yr old girl as well. My son's teenage years began shakily, but all is fine now. I'm very proud of how he has matured so well. My daughter and I are still in that rough spot all teenage girls seem to go through. I'm not sure she'll survive to see 14 yrs! :-)

HI M. ~

Mine are 21,19,and 15. Even though this site deals with alot of baby/toddler stuff, there are sometimes pertinent issues dealing with teens, in-laws, marriage in general, etc... Also, I find myself being able to respond to alot of the other issues, as I've been through it and have advice I can offer from my experiences raising my own. It's kind of rewarding to be able to share your "sage-old" wisdom to the up and coming moms. I always check the new requests to see if there is anything pertaining to teens, and there usually is something about once a week. I haven't had any problems myself that I couldn't handle (knock on wood!), but it's comforting to know that I have a place to go just in case I get stumped! Good luck and best wishes ~ K.

I have a teenage son that will be 18 in April. He is currenly a junior. I truly admire anyone that has multiple teenagers and still have their sanity.:0) My son is good as far as behavoir , but he really tries my patience when it comes to his grades. He loves to sing and in his mind he is already a star, but I would just like him to focus more on his school work and getting a good education.

Not just yes but YES! I was just sure there were moms of teenagers, not just infants or toddlers.

Mine are 16b (Jr in HS), 14b (8th grade) and a 12g (7th grade).

Many different kinds of concerns and worries but many joys to outweigh the worries. At this age, they sleep through the night, feed and bathe themselves, are able to be left alone so mom and dad can have a life again. Homework gets much harder to help them and you have to closely monitor what they do on the computer unlike the days of putting JumpStart and they were good for about an hour or so. TV shows now consist of Sports Center and Cartoon Network...ah yes, the wonderful years of teenagers.

We haven't yet to really cross the lines of girls with our sons, they like their guy friends, too much drama with girls, in their own words. I'm relieved!

Glad to know there are moms out there who understand the worlds of teenagers and the pre-teen girl! LOL!!!

Hi I am a home schooling mother of 5. I have a 17 yr old, 14 yr old, 9 yr old, 6 yr old and 5 yr old. You sound like you could impart some wisdom to those of us who are younger. We moved here October 2006 from Beaufort, SC. I am still homesick. We've not met many people and are still wondering why God moved us here. Our kids are great and very mature. We are looking for a college for our 17 yr old. We visited Bluefield College and really liked the school. We are very anxious about getting funding for it though. With one income and many younger siblings it is forfront in our minds. He has good grades, but maybe not good enough for a full scholarship. We may try Virginia Western for a couple of semesters. Do you have any advice?
