I have never had a child before and am due in March. I am a little freaked out because I keep hearing different things about different situations. Is it true that for the father to cut the ambilical chord and take part in the hospital delivery that he has to take some kind of class? If so, where do we take these classes? Also, do I have to register at the hospital I wish to deliver at? Anybody have good experiences with Clovis Community? I have Medi-CAL so, I'm sure my choices are limited. Also, how about Lamaze? I am almost 30 weeks, am I too late? AHHHHH! :)

What can I do next?

Hang tight S.!

Clovis community is a GREAT hospital. LaMaze classes are recommended, if for no other reason than time to spend with your husband! Usually your Dr. can hook you up, or call the hospital where you plan to deliver. They are usually free, and very comforting (although I didn't really use much that I learned...your bod knows what to do!).

Call the hospital and ask if a class is required for your husband to take part. Good luck S., it will change your life! You won't believe how much love you can immediately feel for your baby. Awwww, I miss my "babies" - all grown or at least think they're grown. Let us know how it all turns out!

S. be calm dont freak, all women get nervous dont even listen to the horror stories people tell you. Your babys dad dosednt have to take any classes to cut the chord the doctor instructs him so so easy if my husband did it twice yours can to trust me! I delivered at Clovis Community it was so so so nice the nurses are so sweet, attentive, but if possible try to get a room alone....all in all it was a great expirience no worries. If you are breastfeeding only they help you with. Regarding lamaze, its never to late unless your delivering now. Tell your doctor to help you find a lamaze class they are supposed to ask you about it. I had medi-cal and i took the classes. Relax you still have time and Im sure your doing and will do great! Giving birth is an awsome and amazing expirience dont let anything take away the miricle, You have so much streangth and all you need is to tap into it feel confident that all will be fine cuz when the baby comes and is finally out youll need all that streangth to be a mom!

With Medi-Cal it depends who your actual Health Network is. If you have Blue Cross Medi-Cal you can go anywhere you want in Fresno or Clovis, but with Health Net you can only do the community hospitals. Don't be too scared, women have been doing this for thousands of years and you have technology and pain medication on your side now. :) You can choose to take birthing classes; your doctor should be able to refer you to someone. Most of all, relax!! The end of your pregnancy is drawing near and you will do great!!!

I had both my boys at Clovis Community and would recommend it to anyone. I had a really great experience. They do not require dad to take a class to cut the cord. but I would recommend that he take some sort of parenting class if this is his first baby too. Clovis Community offers one that you can both attend, and it's only one day for about 4 hours. They tell you what to expect before, during, and after delivery and help teach how to change diapers, feed, and swaddle the baby. My husband and I took this class and learned a lot from it. I didn't do Lamaze so I can't help you there, but best of luck to you and your family!

I just gave birth at Clovis Community on Dec. 22 and they never told us anything about the father having to take a class in order to cut the cord. You can take the classes at Clovis, just call them to find out about it ###-###-####).
You aren't too late at 30 weeks, I didn't start my classes until I was 36 weeks and there were others in my class that were farther along than that. One lady didn't even show up after the first day because she went into labor!
The classes they offer sort of stress natural childbirth, although if you get Melissa as a teacher, she tries to be balanced about it and explain about pain meds too. They are very pro-breastfeeding though, just so you know. The class does cover Lamaze techniques and they also give you a hospital tour and infant care class.
I would definitely recommend pre-registering, but (VERY IMPORTANT) double check that your OB has forwarded your charts and info to the hospital. For some reason, mine didn't do that and I had to answer a bunch of questions while my contractions were 2 minutes apart. Not fun.

Hey S.. Clovis Community is a great place to have your baby. You can go there with your Medi-cal. Yes, you do need to pre-register. It's best, that way when you go to deliver, they'll already have your information (you don't want to be worrying about giving them all you info on the day you're delivering...you'll be too busy!! Lamaze is the birthing class that you and the baby's dad should take. It may be too late now, check with your doctor or call Clovis Community. Things have changed now, he may not be required to take the class to be in the deliverer room with you. Clovis Community will also give you a tour of the birthing unit so you'll know what to expect. Call them right away.....you don't have too much more time left. Good luck. Try to relax, you'll be fine.
