I live in a new house (new to us) and there are bugs everywhere!! I just ordered Skin so soft (Avon) Google it. It has AMAZING reviews for an insect repellent.
My daughter seems to be allergic to mosquito bites. Everytime she gets a bite, which is very often because they are attracted to her, it swells up and creates a bubble of clear fluid. What can we do to prevent her from getting bit so often and how can we make the bites go away faster?

DEET to prevent, and witch hazel or Benedryl after.
Hi N.,
My son had this problem when he was a bit younger, and, good news is, he seems to have a milder reaction to them now. I've heard that a dryer sheet in a pocket helps to repel them; we've also used Burt's Bees bug repellent with decent results (as long as they are not swarming like crazy)! As for after, we now use Afterbite (but it's not recommended for children under 2), which may be along the same lines as using Deet, but it really helps to take away the sting and itch!
Good luck and may she grow out of the allergy!

My son has the same reaction . . we use California Baby, it's organic and you can get at Target. . . . it does a pretty good job @ keeping them at bay . .
We use Basic H from Shaklee. I have bathed in it for the last 16 years and bathed my boys in it when they were little. I have been around people who saturated themselves in Deet (which is dangerous) they would get bitten and we wouldn't. B complex also helps.
Go to peoplepharmacy.com to read about their home remedy. They recommend taking vitamin B-1. Apparently, if you take it, your body gives off a slightly yeasty odor, which repels mosquitos.
Mosquitos LOVE me. If I am with a group of people, I am the only one that gets bitten! Dousing myself with Off has never helped. Citronella doesn't help either. I refuse to use DEET.
I have been getting bitten even on my face and through my clothes just by going outside to get the mail. I have been taking vitamin B-1 for only a few days now. I haven't been bitten since then, but the mosquitos haven't been to bad in the last few days either.
Have your daughter take Benadryl at night, and the swelling from the bites will shrink by morning. And maybe have her try the vitamin B-1. I hear eating lots of garlic repels mosquitos too, but it also repels cute boys ;-) There is also some kind of product out now (possibly made by Off?) that clips to your clothes and fans the scent of citronella to repel mosquitos. Might be worth looking at.
Good luck to you. All this rain has made for a horrible mosquito season. Last year they found West Nile Virus in a couple of mosquitos in Naperville. Crazy!
I use Off or Cutter on myself and my kids. They bite me to pieces if I don't and my kids too. I spray primarily on our clothes and calves and tgat does the trick.
Omidalin wound tincture. I don't know what they market it as in this country but the brand is the first name there and the second two words are a direct translation of the German on the bottle. I have used it forever and I buy it in Europe. As with so many of the products distribution in the US does exist.
Go online to find it.
You just dab the bites with the tincture and they clear up quickly. I had to same problem with my daughter.
I found the mosquitos are less interested in you when you have not eaten sugar for a few days.

this happens to my 3 year old daughter too. I've heard that as kids get bigger (and get bitten) they develop more immunity to them, so the bites won't swell. I'm not sure if there is a way to get them to go away faster (I will check back for answers if there is), but I use Burts Bees Outdoor repellent, it works well and is all natural.
I am also allergic to them, and we have just moved to VA. I just had 3 bites about a month ago and they all swelled up to the size of baseballs, get hard as a rock and hurt like you know what! I have been using avon's brand of bug repelent and have had pretty good luck. I ended up having to take benadryl for mine. I hope she feels better soon!
