I am 6 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and in morning sickness hell right now. I'm sick all day long. If I'm not throwing up I feel like I'm going to, I have no appetite, and a horrible taste in my mouth all day. My doctor gave me medication to try but so far it is doing nothing. I'm going to call on Monday and ask for Zofran which I heard works wonders but just wondering if anyone has other suggestions. I have a 3 year old to take care of and I can't just sit on the sofa and feel sick anymore...my poor kid is being neglected because I feel so horrible! Oh, BTW I am a TINY girl 5ft. 92lbs right now so I cannot afford to loose any weight!

TIA

What can I do next?

Zofran was my only true relief with my 2nd pregnancy. One thing that gave me temporary relief was sucking on chocolate. I kept a big Hershey's bar by me and just broke off a square and let it melt in my mouth. Sounds weird, huh? I get terrible motion sickness and an old man told me to do it for motion sickness when I was deep fishing once. It worked for that so I thought I'd try it for morning sickness and it helped that also.

Congrats and good luck!!

OK, you are a tiny girl, and clearly loosing weight is not an option..so you are right to go for the zofran! I also did sonic ice well..dont know why, but it had to be sonic. Also, my biggest advice is to eat whatever sounds good to you. For me, it was coke and fries from McDonalds. I dont know why, but I tolerated it. So, let go of any other notions and eat anything. Maybe a milkshake..a baked potato was my saving grace, and believe it or not, protien sat better than most carbs. I loved pistacios when I had my worst sickness. I hated ginger anything, but again, I could tolerate a coke. My dr said to do whatever I could and that the one even 2 cokes a day would do far less damage to the baby, than a dehydrated mother. Also, can you suck on something during the day. No mints, that made me so sick, but believe it or not, lemon drops or even cinnamon candies did well. I also hear great things about chiropractic care and accupuncture/accupressure for morning sickness. At this point, you sound willing to try anything, so I would go for it! Hang in there, the 3 year old will be alright. Go buy him a new leapster or something if you can..some art supplies he can do on your bed..any thing that works will be fine. Honestly he wont even remember! It will go away....someday! ~A.~

K.,

My hubby is a nurse and all of the L&D nurses and OB's recommend Sea-Band wrist accupressure bands that go on your wrist. In fact, with my first pregnancy I didn't have any sickness whatsoever. But I'm 8 weeks right now and, although not throwing up at all, I do feel nauseated and smell horrible things and have little appetite. I tried these and they really do work. You can buy them at a CVS or Walgreens. Good luck to ya!

Anything with Ginger in it will help -- Gingersnaps, Ginger Ale, etc. I did REALLY COLD (almost to where ice would form in the bottle) Ginger Ale (sipped) and crackers all day every day.

I also 2nd eating what ever sounds good to you, regardless of the nutritional value since you don't need to loose weight, except I would stay away from dairy. Dairy seems to make an upset stomach go from bad to worse.

Best of luck and maybe the advice posted here will at least help you get through the weekend.

I truly can relate. I had hyperemesis gravadarum (extreme nausea and vomiting to the point of dehydration) with BOTH of my pregnancies. I was hospitalized during my first pregnancy 5 times and twice with my second. I tried EVERYTHING! Zofran works wonders for so many, but it didn't work for me either time. I used a service called Matria with my first pregnancy that provided me a medication called Reglan that was given intermuscularly by a little pump. It finally got me over the hump. So if Zofran doesn't do the trick you may ask about Reglan. Lemon drops will help with that horrible taste in the mouth. Hang in there, I lost 15 pounds with my first pregnancy and had healthy twin boys!

Hi K., I feel for you! Try ginger, ginger tea, ginger ale. Peppermints are good, cinnamon too. Try crackers, baked potatoes, anything bland. I like cream of chicken or mushroom soup. Peanut butter also helps, it will keep you full longer if you can't eat much. Oatmeal is another good thing. You might try googling morning sickness and see what you can come up with. Hope you feel better soon!

I lost about 30 lbs during my pregnancy due to the constant vomiting I had. Baby was 8 lbs 7 oz so he was just fine. One thing that helped with the icky feeling (even though I still got sick) was sweet tarts. I did not take zofran because my doctor was not for it. He is old-fashioned. Try the sweet tarts and see if you can get the zofran......

Hang in there!!!

Hi K., I realy feel for you! If you are as bad off as I was you wont make it though all this advice but I wanted to tell you that I used Zofran and it helped but made me too groggy to work and I still didnt eat. I just slept a little more. ( Not nearly as much as phenegrin though)Hands down Zofran over that.
Sometimes the strangest things help and for me it was definatley not using my eyes too much to read or watch t.v. I think that was a big part and definatley a huge part of it was acid reflux. It can be so bad that you dont even recognize it as reflux or heatburn anymore. If you feel like that may be one contributing facor ask your doctor about some medication specifically for that. I was sick up until the very end but much better after I got the reflux a little more under control. Good Luck. Just keep remembering how worth it they are!

I had months of all day and night sickness with both my sons. The most important thing I learned was to eat. You will feel worse if you don't. Eat small amounts every two hours like crackers and cheese. Try to eat a carb and protein together. I've heard ginger helps, too.

Mix a teaspoon of ginger with a tablespoon of honey. The ginger will calm your nausea and the honey will keep it down long enough to work. I also went through tons of ice from sonic and lemons or lemonade with a little ginger mixed in.

I feel for you, I had really bad morning sickness with my first only, my girl, my boys, I was nauseated with them, but only got sick once. My doctor didn't give me anything for it, however, I probably wouldn't have taken it, I get really healthy when I know I'm pregnant, wish I could do it now... Anyway, I ate a lot of crackers and really bland foods; anything with a taste of flavor just came up. I had morning sickness really for the first 6 months, of course during the 5th and 6th month, it wasn't as bad, but still I got sick.
To this day, when my daughter starts complaining, I tell her... "you had me throwing up for 6 month, kicked me in my stomach, kept me up, then I went thru 16 hours of hard labor with you..." I ramble on and on, about it, she tries to stop me before we get to the 16 hours of labor... saying okay mom...
Hang in there...

I had extreme morning sickness with both of my children. I couldn't keep anything down and was sick all day and night too. I tried sea bands, suckers that were to ward off morning sickness, everything I could find. Zofran was the only thing that worked and allowed me to eat at all. For some people with mild morning sickness those things work so doesn't heard to try them. For me Zofran was all that worked. Good luck with your pregnancy, hopefully the morning sickness will end soon.

I am pregnant with my third child and also get a strong case of morning sickness with each pregnancy. I have taken Zofran with two of my three pregnancies and have been so thankful for it. I often felt the way you described----throwing up and then feeling like I was going to even if I didn't---I was throwing up four times a day. I spoke with my doctor about Zofran and Phenergine (spelling???) and was told that Zofran is actually the safer drug to take. Zofran is exspensive, but if you have good insurance I would definitely try it. All but one mother I've talked to who has tried it has said that it's a "Miracle Drug". I started taking it every day and was able to lead a some-what normal life. Now I am able to take it every other day----I'm into the 2nd tri-mester!!!
I hope you get to feeling better---I know how difficult it can be to be so sick and try to parent at the same time. Good luck!!!

Lemons and lemonade, if it sounds good, works really well. I lost 15+ pounds with baby #3 until my doctor told me to try the lemons or lemonade and I promise, it's the only thing that helped me not be nausaus. I kept crystal light in business for on the go and Simply Lemonade for at home-they were lifesavers for me. HTH

I was fortunate enough to avoid morning sickness but I had a friend that wore the motion sickness bracelets that you can get at the drug store and they worked for her. Good luck.

Count me in as someone who will recommend lemonade. I felt like I was drinking the stuff by the gallon (lol). This is going to sound silly, but on occasion, I also drank pickle juice -- yep, a sip here and there right from the jar. It helped ward off that queasy feeling.

Good luck!
