ok, I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been having really bad morning sickness and have been wondering if I should go to the dr. I have been feeling sick 24/7 for about a week in a half or so and most days getting sick multiple time. sometimes i can keep stuff down, other times i cant even keep water down! I have tried many things like crackers, small bits all the time, ext. I have not done gingerale as i dont like it. and sea bands havent seemed to help very much and just end up making my wrist hurt after a while of wearing them. with my daughter who is 3 i was sick, but no where near as sick as this time. any advice is apreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I know how strange this sounds but I was really sick throughout the entire time I was pregnant. The only thing that tamed the nausea was...Yoohoo! It had to be from the carton and not refrigerated. Something about that soothed my stomach so I could function! Ginger didn't work, neither did coke syrup.

Good Luck!

If its that bad then go as soon as you can so you can get some relief. The doctor can give you anti nausea pills to help you, or even some smelling salt type things. It smells like a really strong mint and takes away the nausea. But if it were me I would go for the pills. They work great.

Hope you feel better soon, and best wishes on your pregnancy!

I was sick all day, every day for the entire first trimester, and half the second. I was literally throwing up 5-6 times a day... The only thing that really helped me was the preggie pop drops you can get at most maternity stores, or babies r us. They stopped working though after a while, so I'm guessing my body adjusted to it. Crackers and all the reccomended morning sick remedies did nothing for me... so I started eating things based on how I though it would be on the way back up. (don't eat rice chex, whatever you do... worst thing in the world to puke up!) My morning sickness came back for the last 5 weeks of my pregnancy too. (just what you wanted to hear, I'm sure. lol) My doctor told me that as long as I wasn't losing weight, I was fine... She also told me to make sure to take my prenatal vitamins at night so I could sleep through the sickness (No matter what vitamins I tried, they still made it worse.) Oddly enough, greasy food seemed to help me too. I ate a LOT of onion rings, and they seemed to help some... (of course, I had to limit intake of that stuff because I was trying to eat healthier for my baby.)

Yes ask your Doctor.

with both my pregnancies, I had MEGA morning sickness and migraines.
Per my OB/GYN's recommendation, I got Acupuncture. That is the only thing that helped me, got rid of it right away, and it did not return.
Just 1/2 hour and it is very relaxing.

Congratulation on your good news (the baby) but Boo! to the bad news (nausea).

You go to the doctor when you do not know what steps to take to make yourself feel better; pregnant or not. That time is now. No need to feel guilty or like you should tough it out.

Your baby will take what it needs. So be sure you and your doctor are taking care of YOU. = ) There is a condition called hypernemisis -- You should get that ruled out now instead of later.

Whenever I felt even a little quesy I would sip ginger-lemon tea (make sure ingredients say it has ginger) and ate saltines. I just did that almost all day. For some reason when I feel sick I had to eat saltines. Also, I would talk to your doctor.

I was severely sick into the second semester and couldn't ever drink water and i lost quite a bit of weight. I was still peeing though so I didn't need an IV I went to the doctor and they were very rude because apparently I was being a baby. They offered me drugs I didn't want because my body doesn't react well to drugs and I just didn't want any. So it seems, all they can do for you is give you drugs. If you want them, that's great, then go for it. If you stop peeing go and get an IV of fluids. I'm sorry your sick, I know it's so hard. You will have your beautiful baby to show for it soon.

Oh, I am so sorry you're having morning sickness. I've had them with all 4 of my children and I it is a pain. You try to fight with morning sickness ..you LOSE.

I had really bad morning sickness and my OB/GYN gave me Vitamin B6 and Unisom. She said I could take them together. It did work, but made me sleepy. I say you should see your Dr if it's really bad. You definitely do not want to be dehydrated. Sometimes you just have to ride it out too.

See your Dr if you're miserable and can't function. Good luck!

This is me. My first i would just wake up and get sick and be done. This one im 8 weeks im nauses all day long and will puke. I have been feeling this way since i was 3 weeks along. My ob told me not to drink as much water because that will just make you get sick more. so i havent been drinking as much water but i do alittle. i mainly drink juice and it sits better on my stomach. also try peppermint candy that helps me as well. My morning sickness actually has been letting up so im hoping its going away. Good luck and if you are terribly miserable i would tell your ob and have her prescribe you something for it.

Talk to your doctor about it. My friend was throwing up sometimes 20 times a day and went on anti nausea medication for her whole pregnancy. For many people, including me, it gets a lot better after the first trimester.

I know you do not want to hear this, but I had morning sickness even while in labor. Totally freaked the LDN out when I threw up. My husband told her, "oh it must be 7:15, she does this every morning. " Even while sharing a hotel room with a fellow buyer at market for 2 weeks, I would go through this.

In the beginning I was like you, I tried to avoid throwing up, but then I realized if I just brushed my teeth, threw up and then brushed my teeth again. I was fine for the rest of the day. Sometimes later in the day, I was nauseous, so I would go ahead and vomit instead of trying to avoid it.

I only ended up gaining about 18 lbs, but had a very healthy child.
My mother says she was the same way with both of her pregnancies. I used to freak out about vomiting, now I can vomit and just move along since all of that during my pregnancy.

First off, It will get better! As everyone has said each pregnancy is different but here is what worked for me. Jello (and Zofran every morning) but I ate Jello BEFORE my feet touched the ground in the morning and ate Jello right before turning off the light at night for at least half of my pregnancy. I also wore the sea bands (maybe they helped) and drank ginger ale (Not my favorite drink either but it did sit better than water did). I had a couple of times where I could not stop vomiting (6-7 hours of vomiting every 20-30 min)so I did what I had to do to prevent it as much as possible. It really does get better. Talk with the OB and get his/her take on it as well.

you're probably ok as long as you keep some things down. I got a bad flu while pregnant once and I was worried cause I couldn't keep anything down, food or water so I called my doc. He said as long as I don't go longer than 24 hours without eating or drinking i'll be ok. So I just didn't eat or drink all day but the next day i was able to keep down some water and a little soup. I was also told even when I was throwing up (with my second baby I threw up everyday for 6 weeks straight!) that if the food stays in your tummy for at least 15 minutes before throwing it up that is long enough to get some of it digested and to the baby so not to worry. So as long as your not throwing up every meal and you are still peeing regularly you should be fine. I know morning sickness is awful....hang in there.

Hi A.,

There are ginger supplements you can take. Of course you may not be able to keep them down but ginger is the first thing I would recommend for nausea. If you do go the gingerale route, make sure it actually has ginger in it. Many don't these days. The stronger the better. Sip it like medicine, not a soft drink and you may be able to stomach it...It does taste better than most meds.

Make sure your sea bands are adjusted correctly. Mine worked when I had them in the right place and I wore them 24/7 the entire pregnancy except in the shower, lol....

Make sure your prenatal has a high absorption rate. Some make you nauseaus and don't even give you any nutrition. The nutrition will satify the baby's nutrients and ease your queeziness. Also exercise i.e. walking will help as well. The fitter you are, the healthier you are, the better you will feel.

Also look into principled upper cervical chiropractic care. It's amazing what a body working properly will do for you and the baby. If you don't have one or know of one in your area go to upcspine.com and find one. Interview them as you would any doctor. If they understand the immune system and good overall health, you're in the right place.

Hope this helps...

Call your doctor. I have terrible morning sickness and my doctor prescribed Zofran, which has made a huge difference for me. I'm 33 weeks along now and I still wake up vomiting if I miss a dose of my medication. Hopefully you will only need for a few weeks, but there is no reason to spend each day laying on the bathroom floor feeling miserable.

I think that you should at the very least call your obstetrician and explain what's going on. They might be able to give you some more ideas to help you out. Also, visit your local health food store- they will be able to suggest a few teas, etc., that will more than likely help you out, too. Always check with your doctor, though, before trying anything, of course. Peppermint candies and teas can be helpful, as well as some other "pregnancy" teas- they usually have ingredients like ginger or peppermint in them. It might sound silly, but you also might want to try the pressure point that helps with motion sickness- it helped me, a little.
Another good idea that really helped me sometimes- keep the crackers right next to your bed, and eat some before you even get out of bed. This was such good advice, it gave me at least some relief, most of the time.
I had morning sickness, like you, all day long. It lasted right up until the very first day of my second trimester. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you won't have this sickness the whole pregnancy. In the meantime- call your doctor! ;-)
Good luck!
C.
P.S. I know you don't like it, usually, but you might want to try drinking at least a small amount of either ginger ale or something with ginger in it. It really can be such a relief, drinking anything with it in it.

Benadryl can help with nausea but knocks some people out. Same with unison. I just recently had the stomach flu and was so queasy I wasn't eating. Dr. Gave me zofran for nausea. Helped tremendously! If it is affecting your daily life I would seek ob advice.

A.,
Every pregnancy is different. I have three sons and each time the pregnancy was completely different from how I felt, to how I looked, to how I carried, to how much weight I gained. With my first I was never sick. With my second, I was sick for the entire first trimester - every day, all day...in the second trimester I still experienced sickness, and in the 3rd, I was just exhausted the whole time. With my 3rd, I had a few rough mornings, but it was also the height of allergy season so it could have been that as well.

I could not take the pre-natal vitamins with any of them. Of course, not pregnant I cannot take multi-vitamins without getting sick either.

Bottom line is this...if your instinct tells you to go to the doctor and get checked out...go. If you think everything is fine and it is just morning/day sickness - keep doing what you are.

To quell morning/all day sick with my second, chocolate milk and a peanut butter sandwhich seemed to help...and I was never without gingerale:)

Hope the sickness ends soon for you so you can enjoy your pregnancy!
