Morning Sickness Is Really Getting to Me

this is my 3rd pregnancy, and i dont know if i thought it would be different this time or if maybe i just forgot how bad it was with the first two. this morning sickness is starting to really upset me. i understand all the facts, i know it will go away, i know its what i have to do to have my baby. but i feel so horrible that all that logic doesnt help me in the midst of the day.

with my first, i could sleep all day. with my second, my first and i would take 2 hour naps a day. this time i have a 5 and 2 year old who make a mess and dont nap. its just so much harder this time. i cant clean up the house, i cant do the laundry. my husband does help but it just is really getting to me feeling sick.

and when i say sick, i mean from the minute i wake up until the minute i finally get to sleep. today went like this. have breakfast, throw up breakfast, take shower, throw up stomach acid, feel horrible all day like im going to throw up. brush my teeth 20 min ago. throw up dinner. and when i say throw up, i mean violently chocking, gagging, coughing 25 times throwing up a little each time for 5 minutes straight. my throat is sore, my back and chest hurt from pulling muscles. its just horrible. and everything i read says 9 weeks pregnant is the START of the worst. and this is along with the worst heartburn, reflux ever from 2 pm until i go to bed, which actually feels as bad if not worse than the nausea. even water makes me sick. i usually get sick until 16 weeks and the heartburn reallty bad until 6 months. right now, just thinking of feeling like this that long makes me cry.

i dont have a question per se, i guess i just am hoping for people to tell me ill make it through and it will get better. this is my 3rd, and i should be used to it but i started crying a few times today since i felt so bad. i just wish i could get 10 minutes of feeling not sick. i am usually a strong person, never complaining unless im very sick, but this is unbearable.

What can I do next?

Good luck! I'm sorry it's so bad for you, I was the same way. Zofran didn't work for me and I had to take Phenagran. It didn't take away all the nausea but it helped me get through the day without wanting to just lay on the bathroom floor.

Hope it gets better soon.

Just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you feel that way! I was miserable with all-day sickness and I didn't have any other children to take care of. Hubby just let me go to bed at 6:00 at night and he took care of the house and everything during that time because I was so sick. And I didn't throw-up nearly as much as it sounds like you are!

I think you might be at a point where it's best to call the doctor and see about medication so that you're not getting dehydrated. I think I remember my doctor saying something specific about throwing up a certain number of times each day before there's a health concern for you or the baby. It sounds to me like you might be at that point. Good luck and hang in there!!! It's ok to feel sorry for yourself and just cry too - I understand what you're saying about being strong. I usually have to be really sick to stay in bed but the morning sickness was just terrible.

I had HG and was hospitalized after losing 20 pounds in like 2 weeks and keeping not even water down for days. Zofran helped me. I lived on the bathroom floor for almost my entire pregnancy, or, the couch with a trash can. The kicker, I ended up with Gestational Diabetes. How? I still do not know because I wasn't eating, especially sweets.

Anyway, Zofran is safe. It is tiny and dissolvable. It is the only thing that kept me sane for my 2 other kids. As for my house, well, I finally decided it was just a house. I couldn't "grocery shop", and, I'm a "health nut" usually. But, I felt good enough if my kids just ate something. So, they survived on canned ravioli, frozen dinners, and, take-out until my son got here. Blah stuff, but, hey, they ate. I'm still cleaning out clutter and corners (17 months after birth) in my house, but, we made it through and have a great miracle to show. It probably would not have been so hard had my husband been able to help out more, but, we own our own company, and, it is our livelihood. Without me being able to help out like I usually was, he was forced to work longer hours.

Good luck, the bracelets did NOTHING for me, but, some swear by them. Research "hyperemesis gravidarum" if you think it is too bad. If you can relate, ask your doctor about it. I had it with 2 of my 3 pregnancies. I survived, as does everyone else. You will be fine, and, it will get better. For some, it does not get better until the baby is born, but, for others, relief comes sooner. :)

I'm sorry that you feel so bad:( I went through the exact same thing with my third child. I finally had the doctor prescribe Zofran and it worked wonders for me. I used it only when my morning sickness was so bad that I couldn't function. My third baby was born healthy, so no consequences from using the drug.

Talk to your doctor, asap:)

Feel better soon:)

this sounds like it could be hypermesis gravidarum, which is serious if you arent getting enough liguids/nutrition. It can also cause depression. there are medications to help with the nausea, I would look into them and talk to your doctor.

Also, water is hard on your stomach if you're sick, I would try something else, like a gatarade or something with electrolytes.

I'm so sorry. I was a lot like that too... only mine didn't go away at 4 months, with either of my pregnancies. It lasted until the day I delivered. both times.

I really got depressed with my 2nd baby... for weeks I felt like all I did was lay in my bedroom with the blinds drawn and TRY to sleep (unsuccessfully). I finally got some zofran from my doctor and I was able to function after that. The nausea didn't go away... but it was eased enough that I could stand to stand up long enough for a shower. And make a quick trip to the grocery store. Or sit on the floor for a half hour with my 2 yr old son and smile at him while we built lego towers. (not all in one day though!).

You already know it is worth it in the end...
I just prayed, multiple times a day, that God would give me the ability to suffer with grace and the strength to get through it, because we both know I didn't have it within myself. He did.
And really... praying helped me re-focus.

Bless you. You'll make it. Suck on some lemon drops in the meantime, and ask your Doctor about some Zofran, even if it's only for a short time.

p.s.
I read/heard a lot about the pressure point bands too... and I tried them. But they did absolutely NOTHING for me. nada. zilch. (except they made my wrists itch after wearing them for hours). If you haven't tried them, give them a shot, some people swear by them... but didn't work for me. Zofran did.

My drs gave me Zofran b/c my morning sickness was unbearable. I didnt care much for the way Zofran made me feel. (I rarely take any type of medicine) So, I invested the $5 on those motion sickness bracelets. I see another poster also recommended them.
They were a real lifesaver. Follow the instructions so you place them in the right spot on your wrist. Put them on in the morning before you even lift your head off the pillow and wear them all day.
You can buy them at any pharmacy. It cant hurt, right? And its 100% natural.

I know exactly how you feel--I'm 25 weeks pregnant and feel great now--but weeks 6-18 are just unbearable for me! I get depressed and grumpy and tell my husband how much I dislike what he's done to me :). And then, slowly but surely I turn into my normal self. With this pregnancy I took Zofran which helped some (just make sure you take something to help with constipation immediately if you decide to go this route). It wasn't a miracle drug, but I could function at a minimal level and kept me from throwing up which was a huge relief. I also think of myself as a strong person who doesn't complain, but nothing and I mean nothing has ever made me even close to as miserable as the nausea and vomiting--I would go through labor 10x in a row to avoid that awful feeling!

hi amy, so sorry you feel so lousy. i had morning sickness, but only nausea most of the time. my heartburn, however, was absolutely brutal, really painful all day every day and it only got worse as the pregnancy continued, and was worse with each pregnancy. im sure you have tried almost everything, but ill share what worked the best for me..... for the nausea i kept crackers and ginger ale next to my bed and ate and drank immediately when i woke up, before even sitting up. it helped a lot. for the heartburn, the best thing for me was to raise the head of my bed as much as i could. towards the end it was like a ski slope, my hubby would actually slide down and out some nights! it helped a lot. and soymilk helped everything, a big glass of it once a day or so, i used to drink about 3/4 vanilla with about a 1/4 chocolate mixed in. it kind of settled everything. i still was taking tums by the fistful, and by the end of my last 2 pregnancies i had to be on something stronger, i dont remember what, your basic hearburn med whatever that was, zantac? i dont know. anyway, i wish you all the best, hang in there.

Try looking for a morning sickness bracelet. They have them at REI or if you don't have those, you can look online, but basically its a bracelet to wear that applies pressure to your pressure points and its really supposed to help.
Good luck! :)

I threw up my whole pregnancy bascially, and I still swear I should have bought stock in TUMS. Before I got pregnant throwing up was on occasion and it was easy for me (no dry heavs nothing like that). When I got pregnant, I lived on the bathroom floor, and I can't tell you how many times I choaked and gagged and dry heaved. You know what I hated the worst, people telling me to eat saltines. Yuck. Just the thought of choaking down a dry flakey cracker made me sick (even though I love them when im not pregnant). Then my room mate told me to eat ginger snap cookies (ginger is supposed to soothe your tummy), I didn't even swallow all the way before they were in the garbage can. What I did for most of my pregnancy was vanilla milkshakes. Plain and easy to throw up. People would laugh at me for saying that, but honestly it made throwing it up a lot easier. Then I graduated to french fries. Again plain and easy to throw up. Later once I was used to it and could keep some stuff down, I would force myself to eat multiple times a day. I didn't care that I was throwing up the majority of it, some still made it in my system and I wasn't gagging on stomach acid. Im sorry your going through this. Hang in there!

And read a little about hyperemesis and make sure first thing that you do not have this. I had two wonderful pregnancies and then bam my third pregnancy was HELL I sufferened from a severe case of hyperemesis.

You sound like I sounded at 5 weeks pregnant. And WATER is the worse thing you can drink...it is the harshes liquid on your tummy. Avoid straight water at all costs!

Talk to you doctor now and get help as soon as you can it is not something to mess around with. I landed in the hospital at 8 weeks pregnant on my death bed I was so sick. Now you may not have it as bad, but what I am trying to say is just because you are use to being pregnant and you have been through it before doesn't mean that you are not dealing with something more severe this time around. The forums on help her dot org are great if you are really struggling with how you feel physically and emotionally. I now all to well how hard it is to be pregnant with your third and sicker then sick.

I was sick till the day I delivered but I now have the most wonderful 8 week old and I think every moment was more then worth it...even though it didn't seem like it at the time.

Anyhow I have so many helpful suggestions that are more useful then eat some crackers and take some ginger because Hon that ain't gonna work. You most likely don't have "morning sickness" you have something more severe called hyperemesis. and that is not anything to mess around with.

Do you keep a glass of water and a couple saltines beside your bed to eat AS SOON AS you open your eyes in the morning...BEFORE you even let your feet touch the ground? Have you tried peppermint and gingersnaps? I would live off of starlight mints the entire time I was pregnant with my twins. Praying you get to feeling better soon!

I was sick for 8 1/2months at least 3 times per day. I took a medication that was a "Miracle Drug" and it caused horrible side effects on the babies. I was fortunate that she only had behavior problems but many children were born deformed and many health issues. Research natural remedies such as the cracker idea and find something that helps you that can't hurt you or your baby.
