Morning Sickness - Sterling Heights,MI

Okay, I am only 7 weeks into my first pregnancy but seriously. Is there anything that can help with "morning sickness"? It should be called three straight months of sickness and puking. From the time I wake until I go to bed I feel like hell and heave or puke all of the time. It is hard to work (I am a teacher and puking freaks my students out) or maintain a civil conversation when I am gagging all of the time. All smells make me vomit, even the smell of my house. I have had the windows open for almost a week now and still, nothing. Any help?

What can I do next?

Hey C.-

I took half a Unisom every night before I went to bed - that seemed to help a lot with the sickness. It was approved by my Dr.

NOt sure if your still sick but i'm due in May and my dr told me to take unisom and a b12 every night before bed. It was a life saver. I was vomiting up to 15 times a day and the pill made me just have an upset stomach during the day no more vomiting. He also said if that didn't work then to call him back for a presciption. THere is help out there.

Well I feel your pain honey and I'm so sorry. I was the same way and though I dont know anything that will ease the nausea I will tell you that it did subside about 12weeks in. I will tell you that you need to brush your teeth EVERY time you vomit. I lost all my teeth with my first pregnancy because the vomiting ate the enamel off my teeth. The pain from that was worse then all the vomiting in the world! So good luck, and congrats!

What helped me when I felt sick was ginger ale and laying down. No matter where I was, if I started to feel queasy I would lay down and breathe and try to relax and it would go away most of the time. That and eating are very important. It can come on fast so just keep nibbling all day. You can do it!

It is usually in with the baby suppliments and herbal remedies and by the same people who make gripe water (saved my sanity with a colicky infant)... good luck and congradulations!

Hi there,

I had the same thing- it's called hyperemesis. I threw up so much I actually burst a blood vessel! The good news is that it will most likely go away. Mine lasted 16 weeks. You should really talk to your doctor about it. I found that white cherry icees from target were about the only thing I could eat. And I normally hate stuff like that. It's a very unfortunate thing but you will get through it. I now have an amazing beautiful daughter. I would see if your husband will eat his meals in another room or even out if possible. I felt bad but I just couldn't stand the smell of any food. Also, ginger is really good. Seriously, though, try the icees and remember that this will pass. There is a message board for women going through the same thing- I think it's www.helpher.org. Check it out and best of luck- it's really not an easy time, I know.

Hi C. - I had morning sickness all though both of my pregnancies. The first time was much worse as I didn't know how to manage it, but the second time around I did fine, I even worked on a line builing RVs! What I learned to do was eat! Even when the thought of food makes your stomach turn you still need to eat. With my daughter I avoided food like the plague, because all smells and even thoughts of food sent me running for the nearest receptacle! But with my son I carried grapes with me all day and every time I got the slightest bit queasy I would snack on a few and be totally fine. Also gatorade was great. No other drink worked like gatorade! Those were my snacks and those were the only things that kept me from pucking all day every day for nine months. When it came time for meals I tried to eat light and healthy. Oatmeal, any and all fruits, yogurts etc. Hope this helps and good luck!!

I agree with Amanda, peppermints have really helped me. I usually carry around a handful of those starlight mints. You could also try peppermint tea...okay for pregnant women. I also keep a small vial of peppermint oil in my purse...sometimes I start to feel sick and the thought of eating anything just makes me feel even more sick...taking a few deep breathes of the peppermint oil can sometimes settle my stomach enough to be able to eat. Good luck!

First of all congrats. Second, I am so sorry and I totally feel for you. I had the same problem with my son. I tried to eat a saltine cracker before I even got out of bed and I carried them with me EVERY where I went. Unfoutunatly, I couldnt get the vomiting to pass as ended up starting to loss weight and needed to be put on anti-nauesa med. Try the crackers and if it doesnt help you may need to speak with your doc. Good luck.

You can go to your doc and get Zofran. It is to help with the sickness. I have heard it is a miracle drug for those experiencing severe morning sickness. Good luck. Also lemonade works and emetrol...an over the counter syrup that controls that as well, but I would talk to my doc about Zofran.

Hi C.,
Congrats on your pregnancy. Keep saltines by your bed and before you even get out of bed in the morning have a saltine or two. I don't know why but that always worked for me. Instead of eating big meals eat alot of small ones. Even if its toast. Also drink alot of water. That also seemed to help. With my first pregnancy I had no problems. With my second I had morning sickness for the first and second trimesters. I took flintstone vitamins and folic acid instead of prenatal vitamins. That helped alot. Good luck.
Chris

YOu are in the worst stage of morning sickness - It peaks at 6 weeks and then gets better it should be gone by 12 weeks.. I really didnt have much nausea with my first pregnancy...however... I got the prenatal vitamins from my dr. and tried to take them for about 4 days and I was sick as a dog. I stopped the prenatals and I felt fine.. I took a centrum multivitamin throughout the pregancy and I did fine. So my suggestion is to stop the prenatals and see if that helps. Also ginger ale helps, small meals, toast, eat only what you want and what sounds good.- even if you only eat soup for a week- that is fine. This too shall pass you can get through it..

C.- I just had my 2nd son in Aug. During the first few months of my pregnancy, I had really bad morining sickness, or should I say all day sickness. I tried ginger, wich helped most of the time, but it was also my prenatal vitamins that were doing it. I found that if I took them after I ate dinner, they didn't make me feel bad. Talk to your dr. my sister in law had really bad morning sickness, and it was from her prenatals too. Her Dr. had her take 2 childern flintstones vitamins instead, but like I said, talk to your dr. about it!

Congrats! Eating really helps-- try eating small amounts of very bland food all day. Crackers (I used to eat triskets) are good and I would drink vernos. Be careful with tea some kinds are not good for pregnant women to drink. Also, I used motion sickness bands. They are bracelets with a pressure point that pushes on your wrist. You can get them at any drug store. They really helped me.

Good luck.

I used peppermints. I've also heard that ginger tea works well. Eating healthy is very important to keep your stomach stable. If you can't eat in the morning try a drink like Ensure or Slimfast to get some nutrients in your body and then small meals. No grease. Try to experiment with all sorts of smells until you find one that can calm your sickness when needed. Try to find a lotion or perfume that you can whip out and put on when you feel the "urge". Hope this helps--it'll go away eventually:)
