I have given my son stage one veggies. And so far so good. No reaction and he seems VERY happy. Now I am about to start fruits. Should I do fruits and no veggies to look for a reaction? OR do I just add fruit to our daily schedule? So far this is how I have been feeding him ( I work full time so throughout day is approx)

1st thing- breastfeed
9ish cereal
11 breastfeed (on my lunchbreak)
12 veggie
Bottle on demand
4:30 Breastfeed (when I pick him up)
5:30 vegiie
8:00 cereal
Breatfeed bedtime

What can I do next?

Thank you everyone for all your replys! You are all so VERY helpful and I am greatful to you! :)

I have added fruit in as a snack after his veggies and so far so good. We started with bananas. Tonight I started peaches and it is the 1st food so far he hasnt liked. Bitter face! Poor baby. Maybe I will go back to bananas again and try peaches in a few days. He only had a few bites so I guess we will see!

I agree with the other posts....I would just add...that I went through the same issues with my 10.5 month old. Just introduce foods once every couple of days and trust your instincts. I am not certain that I believe all the info about introducing veggies then fruits.....my little guy ate fruits right from the start and now he eats everything like a champ. And remember...that it can take some time for your baby to "like" some of these new foods....

T.,

Accoring to my dr. you can mix fruits and veggies...you just have to keep 3-4 days in between trying a new food (no matter what it is) that gives you enough time to determine if they are allergic. We've done this with my 8 month old and it works great. If he doesn't show any problems, I keep feeding him the new food, or go back to an old standby until the 3-4 days passes and we can try something new again!

This is how I did it with all three of my kids:

Cereal at lunch, until s/he was up to a 1/4 a day. Then veggies at lunch w/cereal, cereal at dinner. I started with the green veggies first - I started with the less sweet stuff first. When I went through the green veggies, I started with the orange, and then s/he was eating a yellow veggie at lunch and a green at dinner, all mixed with 1/4 cup cereal. Finally I added fruit at breakfast, starting with prunes, mixed with cereal, so that they were eating a fruit at breakfast, and veggies at lunch and dinner. At 6 months, I started adding meats, at lunch. Now, my boys were both huge eaters, so at dinner I also was giving a fruit at dinner for dessert. With my 7 month old I give him yogurt at lunch. This is a typical day for him

Wake up, nurse.
Breakfast - Stage 2 fruit with 1/4 cup cereal
Nurse and nap
Lunch - Stage 2 veggies w/1/4 cup cereal, Yobaby yogurt, usually some sort of gerber puff or cheerios while he's waiting.
Nurse and nap
Nurse after he wakes up depending on how long until dinner
Dinner - Stage 2 dinner(with meat) mixed with cereal(my kids all liked thicker consistencies), stage 2 dessert mixed with cereal. Again, he will have something to tide him over sitting in the highchair while I get dinner on the table for everyone.
Nurse and bed.

Good luck!

Really doesn't matter if it is fruit/veggie. All that stuff about getting veggies first is really kind of silly.....your breastmilk is VERY sweet and he has been drinking that since birth! Just give him only one new thing at a time. So, if you know he does well with green beans, for instance, then start a fruit ....maybe with his cereal in the morning, or with his "lunch" veggie. Just don't give him more than one new thing in a week just to watch and make sure he isn't allergic to anything. Then the next week, try something else different.

I added each thing separately until I had been through them all and then started to mix it up by giving more than one food in a day.
He's only 6 months old, so there is no reason and no rush to get him to fill up on solids...or even to get him into eating a variety of foods within a day.
I just figured it was better to go slowly and not to overwhelm my daughter's system. Even though a certain food may not cause any sort of adverse reaction, do remember that these are foreign things to their GI tract. Going slowly and doing only one food at a time will make it easier to notice and identify and reaction as well.
Good luck
This is where the fun (and the mess) start :)

This is what my pediatrician suggested and we've had no problems thus far:

Week 1 - cereal for breakfast only
Week 2 - cereal for breakfast and dinner, yellow veggies for lunch for 3 straight days (to watch for reactions, etc., first squash, then sweet potatoes, then carrots)
Next - cereal for breakfast and dinner, alternate green veggies with the yellow veggies (3 days of peas, 3 days of green beans)
Next - add in fruits as 'snacks'

So...as you can see, we've added the fruits to our daily diet without eliminating the veggies. I think we've tried every Gerber stage 1 food available and he loves all of them!

Some people say to hold off on the fruits for as long as possible - the theory is that since fruits are sweeter, the child might balk at veggies. In our case, it hasn't mattered a single bit what we've offered our child - he'll eat anything!

At this time, eating solids is more about practicing eating so make sure that breastmilk or formula are his primary source of nutrients.
