Mood Swings, PMS and Hot Flashes

Hello~ I am a 42 year old woman who never thought I might be going through premenopause but there are so many wacky things going on with me, I think I need to take a look at what's going on and see how I can help myself. I haven't been to a doctor yet. I am going for a physical soon and will speak to my doctor then about remedies but would really prefer to handle things in a natural way before taking pharmaceutical drugs for remedies. My issues are sever mood swings and hot flashes. My mood swings happen about 2 weeks prior to my menstrual cycle and I become just so irrational! I don't make sense when I talk and contradict myself all the time. I'm irritable and extremely moody one minute, weeping and crying the next, and then I'm distant and stand offish. I go from one extreme to the other for about 2 1/2 weeks. I have about one hot flash a day where I get so hot, I need to really stand in front of the freezer or drink lots and lots of ice water to try to cool down. Usually when my menstrual cycle is over, I'm in a great mood, happy, social and really nice. Then about 1 week or so after that, it all starts over again. I'm sad for the way I treat my husband and my children. I've tried Sam-E which helps sometimes but some months my mood swings are just too strong. Does anyone have any advice they can pass along?? I'm getting desparate!
Thanks!!!
K.

Although I understand you want to manage your symptoms without a lot of medication, my first suggestion is to see your physician. I am now happily past menopause and your symptoms sound oh, so familiar. I tried to manage all of it with natural resources, but finally, I had to ask the doctor for help because I was having a difficult time just living life. I did take some hormone replacement for a short time, monitored closely by my doctor. My symptoms dramatically reduced and I was able to carry on without the mood swings, lack of sleep, and hot flashes. I was only on HRT for about a year and after I quit, I did have the return of the hot flashes, but not in such extreme and the other symptoms seemed to have been resolved. Your doctor can help you assess your risks and how long you should take the medication and in what doses. You may want to research homeopathic medicine, but I had little success taking that route. You do need to get relief, not only for yourself, but also for your family. I remember this time of my life very well, and it does pass. Just don't try to "tough it out" when relief is available. Good luck!!!

Hi K.,

I too am like you and wanting to try more natural approaches rather then quickly being prescribed medication only to get side effects and then having the Dr. prescribe another med to take. In the last 9 months have been drinking all natural teas with no chemicals, additives or preservatives, that clean the toxins from your body and help with the movement of fat and cholestrol. Calli and Fortune tea put more alkaline in the body and help with the removal of acid. I believe the diet causes a lot of these symtoms as well as many others. Our bodies are a miracle and we need to treat them well. American's eat so much junk food, fast food with tons of Chemicals, additives and preservatives, which is causing illness'. The body needs to be in an 80% alkaline state and 20% acid and most bodies are 80% acid and 20% alkaline. Alkaline foods are only fruits, veggies and some nuts. The body can actually heal itself when you have more alkaline and the teas cleanse you liver, kidney and pancreas. I would love to share more info with you at your convienience. My husband and kids drink the calli and fortune teas as well as other whole food herbs. Please call me with an questions or more info. A. LaRussa ###-###-####

K.,

Sounds like your hormones are having a party. Its crazy when you don't have control over your own body. I am in the health care profession and I want to tell you about a product that works wonderful on many different levels. I use this product and so do my clients. Lifewave makes a nontransdermal patch called Y-age. It is a glutathione and carnosine booster. No drugs and no chemicals. As we age our bodies stop or slow down in glutathione production (master antioxidant, we naturally produce). When this happens our bodies show symtomps like menopause, depression, disease, changes in blood pressure and you name it. The Y-age patches have changed my life and I strongly urge that you try them. If they don't help you, the company will refund you. My clients are extremely happy with this natural product. Order it and try it for 3weeks, see how you feel and let me know if I can help you in any way. Go to my website and down load the Y-age brochure for more info. Lifewave.com/kherihealth ###-###-####. This product also helps with autism. Autistic kids start speaking! Many doctors are using this product in their practices.

Hi K.-
I haven't experienced all those symptoms... however, PMS and my diet are closely related. Usually, I just want to eat chocolate and carbs. So, if I limit junk food (chocolate, sugary carbs, and alcohol) and eat a balanced diet with lots of veggies, I tend to have A LOT less PMS symptoms. And of course, exercise helps me too. It is usually the last thing I want to do, but if I force myself to do it, I generally have less moodiness and PMS. Hope that helps!
