Hello mamas, I am really needing some advice. I have a adorable two year old daughter who is my whole world, but she is in the terrible twos for sure and has a temper out of this world to say the least. I find myself getting frustrated and then I feel bad of course, because she is only a kid. My husband doesnt help the situation, he gets mad at me when I lose my temper, and he can keep his cool. So anyways, I was wanting to know if any of you tried natural or herbal suppliments for mood swings, I was on a low dosage of prozac when my daughter was an infant, which did help me very much, but Im not on it anymore and havent been for a while. Just wanted to try something natural like vitimins or suppliments before going to the doctor for a prescription. Ive done some research on St John's Wort, but it messes with your birth control, so that would not work. Any advice?? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I can relate, I too have a two year old daughter. A couple of months ago I was getting more and more frustrated with my daughter and her father. Instead of going to a psychiatrist first, I tried the natural supplement called Sam-E. It does not conflict with birth control. Like I said, Its been a couple of months and I feel much calmer, things do not bother me like they used to. Also my pms has improved greatly. I buy it at costco, its the best price. good luck to you. remember you are not alone. take care.

Vitamin B and Evening Primrose have been working for me but I would check with your OB/GYN or primary doc first. Since they are supplements we need it couldn't hurt to try them.

A good CD works for me. I just can't be upset when certain songs are playing. There are some times when you know her behavior will be more difficult: time of day, etc. Play some fun music that you will like or even find some that your daughter likes.

Vitamin B-6 might help, and it doesn't conflict with BC.

Well I'm all for meds when needed, if your mood swings are due to depression or anxiety. So if that's the case, I would surely go to the doc. I don't have anything to offer about the natural supplements.

But what you describe is a reaction to your toddler. Which is totally natural and no amount of meds will help that!! (otherwise they'd be flying off the shelves!).

I would say that even if you do need meds for any kind of condition, you need to figure out a way to deal with your DD. Love and logic is a great place to start. Usually, tantrums can be remedied by ignoring them or staying calm and distracting. I don't know enough about how long she's been doing this or what sets her off. I don't presume to give a short answer or tell you things you may have already tried. But I do recommend getting some books on toddlers to see what works for you to manage her behavior.

I'm sure it only makes things worse to have DH get mad at you. Everyone has different temperaments. Some can stay cool easier than others. There is no good or bad here, it's just a matter of how you manage things.

So remember that you are not DH and you have your own way. Get some parenting books to deal with DD. And if you still need meds, get to the doc- maybe tell them you'd like an herbal remedy before rx? Good luck to you.
