Would like to know your experience at Provena Mercy Hospital (indian trail in Aurora) I have mentioned before that iam new to the area and this would be the closest hospital to us.
We have taken a tour months ago and it was small but very nice. I would like to get others opinions as far as the staff and their experience there. Is there anything i should know, that maybe would be helpful to us and to my family who will be driving in from out of town? I am starting to make my list of things i need to buy for my hospital bag and dont know if the list i got all of it is necesary. Example is i was told some hospitals give you very small bath towels and my cousin told me i should take a dark big bath towel from home ( she had her baby in another state) so i dont know how provena is, what they do give and what they dont. Also do they give you samples or baby stuff to take home with you? I heard some hospitals give you tons of stuff, diaper bags, with diapers, formulas etc. I know someone who got like 3 months worth of stuff but in the city/northwestern hospital. So any info , advice you can give me would be very helpful . Thanks again, you ladies have been so helpful so far, i'm glad someone told me about this website.

What can I do next?

I had both my children at Edwards hospital in naperville. They were excellent. Everyone from the nurses to the doctors to the aids etc.. I did receive tons of formula, diapers, receiving blankets, and a bib that said " dr so and so delivered me".
Good luck

Lisa,
I had my 2 daughters there, and let me tell you, they treat you pretty good.
With my firts one I was 23 hours in labor and then had a c-section, so I had the opportunity to meet a lot of the nurses.
Thay all were so nice.
You just need to take your things plus clothes for the baby when you home.
They will give you some diapers, but not that much.
You'll have in your room under the crib where the baby will be, diapers and some stuff that you can take home.

You'll like the way you'll be treated that special day.
good luck!

Hi Lisa!
I had my 2nd daughter there in October 2006 and I LOVED IT! Everyone, from the person behind the desk in the lobby to the nurses, were amazing! I found everyone to so nice and genuinely caring. They made me feel like I was the only patient on the maternity floor.

A few things that still stick out in my mind was the fact that once you get in your room, that's the room you stay in until you go home, unless you have a C-section. The other is that you may have as many people come to visit you as you wish. As long as it's between visiting hours, which is until 10p! Your hubby can stay with you and he doesn't need to sleep in a chair! They actually have a little pull out couch, not too comfy but better then a chair. If someone is staying later then 10p ypu just had to tell the nurse! It was GREAT to have the people that I loved the most stay as long as they wanted and not feel like they were going to get kicked out!

As for the extras, I got 2 or 3 bags of stuff. They let us take all the extra diapers they provided, formula(if you don't bring any the will provide it for you), all the stuff they use for the baby's bath. I would bring your own towel or a comfy pillow from home, but only because I found having my own pillow was a little piece of home.

If you can't tell, I had a fantastic experience. I have talked to many mommies that have had their babies there and have said the exact same as well.

Good luck to you and ENJOY!
K.

Hi I can't help with the hospital but I can tell you most of the things I took, came back from the hospital untouched still in the bag. Things I used was a Breastfeeding tank top and a bathrobe. It allows you to get out of the hospital gown. The other thing that I find useful was to take 3 bottles of Gatorade with. Why .. because you are not allowed anything to eat or drink while in labor and giving birth. You are generally to tired afterwards to eat and although the nurses are good, they take care of you medically and are less concerned with your thirst. The Gatorade I found was the best thing as it has electrolytes which boost your blood sugar and takes your thirst away. I hope this helps.

I had my last child 4 years ago at Mercy and it was the best birth ever. I had a midwife, Colleen Jones and my husband as well as two doulas. I am also a doula. It is great there. I dont think they give as much stuff as they use to, but you do get sent home with some things like a pack of diapers, some samples, a bag etc.

Hi Lisa,
Congrats on your upcoming baby! I had my first baby a little over a year ago. I was supposed to go to Copley and have him, but they were packed and I had to go to Mercy. I loved it!!! At Copley you have to move from the large birthing room to a smaller room after the baby is born. At Mercy you are in the large birthing room the whole time and that was very nice, we just settled right in. I had the whole family visit after he was born. My husband and mother were there for the birth and the couch turned into a single bed and they got a chair for my husband to sleep on. They gave us a bunch of stuff: diapers, pacifier, onesies, bath items and a few other things. We did pack his diaper bag, but really didn't need much from it. We used his car seat and take home outfit and that was about it. I nursed, so I don't know about the formula. The staff was great and very patient. They walked my husband through giving the baby a bath. I will go there the next time I have a baby. Every time a baby is born they play a lullaby on the speaker. I think it's a very nice hospital. If you have any questions, please let me know. :) S.

Hi L.,

I did not have my baby at Provena Mercy, but have friends who have. Everyone seems pleased with the hospital, I haven't heard anything bad about it.

I had my baby at Delnor in Geneva, which isn't too far from Provena Mercy so you may want to consider that hospital too if your doctor delivers there. I encourage you to take a tour of the maternity ward at Delnor because it is wonderful! The rooms are sooo comfortable and the showers are phenomenal. The nurses were wonderful there as well. I never wanted to leave.

Whatever you choose--good luck!!

I was in labor for 22 hours. Mercy was great. The nurses were very nice and helpful. When I was not progressing and they had to start the stuff to make the contractions stronger the doctor on staff gave me my epidural before 4 centimeters because I was in so much pain. My one disapointment was that your baby is delivered by the doctor on duty so the doctor you have spent the last nine months with may not be the one who delivers your baby. But the staff I had was great. I got the home service after the birth where they come to your home for the first two baby and you check ups which was great also. I got blankets, accesories, diapers, my recovery stuff, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember. The nurses that visited me also gave me about a months worth of the premade formular which was great also. You also get a free gift from the nuns at the birth which was very nice. The rooms are huge and you do not have to share like at CDH or Copley. There is a pull out couch for your husband to stay with you also. Bring your pillow, and toiletries to shower with, and clothes for you and the baby to wear home. you will not need anything else ans the birth will require you to want to use their sheets, clothes and towels as you will not want to ruin yours. You give birth in your room and the baby stays with you at all times you never have to leave your room once you are there. Good luck this is the best moment of your life!

I never had a baby at Mercy, but I know people who have. Most of them seemed very happy with them. I know from personal experience that they are sot my first choice hospital for other things. I prefer Rush Copley, which isn't far from there. I have had a baby there, and will be having another one there in July. I am extremely happy with what they have to offer. It is a nice size and they have a great nursing staff. I'm sure they would let you take a walk through if you were interested.
