Before I start, I am not asking why its not good to have my nipples pierced.
I have them pierced for 4 years now with no problems at all.
I just want to know if any of you moms have breast fed after they had pierced nipples. if there is any thing I should be careful of. I know I will have to remove the rings before I fed. I love my nipple rings and will not leave them out ! Just want to know I am not the only mom on here that has nipple rings. :)
There are a couple of things 1st the holes might leak more milk then normally but this could also be a good thing becuse you could pump faster. Also invest in some good breast pads for this reason.
Some people have built up scar tissue that can hinder milk flow (not very common)
If you exspress some milk onto your bar or ring before reinserting it will help keep the peircing healthy.
Make sure you have a ring that will be easy for you to remove (if BF in public it should be easy to remove and put back)
In the begining you might be more sore than with out piercing so be gentle when putting jewlery back in for 1st couple oif times and use only lanolin products on breast.
Hope this helps ((HUGS))
Hi N.! I don't have them but a friend of mine has her nips pierced and had no problems whatsoever with breastfeeding.
She just took them out every time she nursed and then put them back in after. She said it was kind of a bother to take them out and put them back, but worth it because she didn't have to have them re-pierced.
Good luck!
I know my sister did with little problem, but I think she left them out, because it became too much of a hassle with the baby eating so frequently.
Had to take mine out. Sorry.
But no. You're not the only one that has them... Rather had them for my case. I WILL get them done again. Love mine!
I do not have a direct answer to your question but I am sure you are not the first and that the lactation group in your practice or at the hospital should be able to address them. You could even call them to inquire ahead of time and prepare. I know I had a ointment for breast feeding issues and skin care and it may be need to ensure your not at risk for infections with the milk in the area, possibly even a quick wash of the area, etc. But if one can nibble on ones ear with an earring hole then it all shoud be fine;)
